This document establishes a voluntary system for the identification of versions of audiovisual works
and other content derived from or closely related to an audiovisual work (see Annex A). It is based
on the International Standard Audiovisual Number (ISAN) system defined in ISO 15706-1. An ISAN
combined with the version segment specified in Clause 4 constitutes an ISAN version identifier,
hereinafter referred to as a V-ISAN. A V-ISAN is a registered, globally unique identifier for versions of an
audiovisual work and related content.
A V-ISAN identifies a specific version or other content related to an audiovisual work throughout its life.
It is intended for use wherever precise and unique identification of a specific version or other content
related to an audiovisual work would be desirable, such as in audiovisual production and distribution
systems, broadcasting applications, digital platforms and electronic program guides.
A V-ISAN identifies a specific version or other content related to an audiovisual work as the unique
compound of its component elements (e.g. its artistic content, languages, editing and technical format)
throughout its life and independent of any physical form in which that version or related content is
distributed.
The assignment of a V-ISAN to a version or other content related to an audiovisual work does not
constitute evidence of the ownership of rights to either that version or related content or to the
audiovisual work itself.
This document specifies the basic systems and procedures to support the issuance and administration
of V-ISANs.

Elle est fondée sur le système de Numéro international normalisé des œuvres audiovisuelles (ISAN) défini dans l'ISO 15706. Un ISAN combiné avec le segment de version spécifié à l'Article 4 de la présente partie de l'ISO 15706 constitue un identifiant de version ISAN, ci-après désigné comme V-ISAN. Introduction
This document specifies the structure and basic criteria for the assignment of an identifier for versions
of audiovisual works and other content derived from or directly related to an audiovisual work. It
supplements the International Standard Audiovisual Number (ISAN) specified in ISO 15706-1 and
provides a mechanism for identifying versions and related content of audiovisual works that have been
registered in the International Standard Audiovisual Number (ISAN) system.
This document defines the version identifier component of the ISAN system, specifies the rules for
assignment of the ISAN version identifier, and the basic administration and registration procedures for
the ISAN version identification system.
The Registration Authority for ISO 15706 is the entity charged with oversight of the ISAN version
identification system. The Registration Authority maintains a database of all version registration
records (the register), issues new version identifiers upon proper request, and establishes the necessary
operational procedures to keep the system functioning properly.
The Registration Authority makes version registration and information retrieval services available
to those with a need to register new versions of audiovisual works or to obtain data about existing
registrations. The Registration Authority provides services to applicants for new ISAN version
identifiers, registrants of existing ISAN version identifiers, and other users.
The information contained in the version register is the minimum necessary to identify the versions
to which specific ISAN version identifiers apply. It is often desirable to make additional information
about the registered versions of audiovisual works available for access in a variety of ways. To enable
the association of such additional information with a version registration, mechanisms are provided
to link to entities providing access to that information. Those entities are called resolution service
providers. The version register itself is not intended for complex queries (where one requests the ISAN
version identifiers associated with specific complementary metadata), but that does not preclude the
Registration Authority from providing such a service.

Introduction
Le présent document spécifie la structure et définit les critères de base de l'attribution d'un identifiant
à des versions d'œuvres audiovisuelles ou à d'autres contenus dérivés ou directement liés à une œuvre
audiovisuelle. Il complète le Numéro international normalisé d'œuvre audiovisuelle (ISAN) spécifié
dans l'ISO 15706-1 et fournit un mécanisme pour identifier les versions et les contenus liés à des œuvres
audiovisuelles qui ont été enregistrées dans le système du Numéro international normalisé d'œuvre
audiovisuelle (ISAN).
Le présent document définit l'identifiant de version partie prenante du système ISAN, spécifie les règles
d'attribution d'un identifiant de version ISAN, et les procédures de base pour l'administration et la
déclaration du système d'identification de version ISAN.
L'Autorité d'enregistrement de l'ISO 15706 est l'organisme responsable de la surveillance du système
d'identification de version ISAN. L'Autorité d’enregistrement assure la maintenance d'une base de
données de toutes les notices des versions enregistrées (le registre), attribue de nouveaux identifiants
de version sur requête particulière et établit les procédures opérationnelles nécessaires au bon
fonctionnement du système.
L'Autorité d'enregistrement assure la mise à disposition des services de déclaration de versions et de
recherche d'information à ceux qui ont besoin de déclarer de nouvelles versions d'œuvres audiovisuelles
ou d'obtenir des données sur des déclarations existantes. L'Autorité d'enregistrement fournit des
services aux demandeurs de nouveaux identifiants de version ISAN, aux déclarants d'identifiants de
version ISAN existants et à d'autres utilisateurs.
L'information contenue dans le registre des versions est le minimum nécessaire à l'identification
des versions respectives auxquelles des identifiants de version ISAN ont été attribués. Il est souvent
souhaitable de rendre accessible de manière diverse des informations complémentaires sur les versions
d'œuvres audiovisuelles déclarées. Pour garantir l'association de ces informations complémentaires à
la déclaration de la version correspondante, des mécanismes de liens avec les organismes fournissant
l'accès à ces données complémentaires sont fournis. Ces organismes sont appelés Fournisseurs de
service de recherche. Le registre de version en lui-même n'est pas destiné à répondre à des recherches
complexes (par exemple quelqu'un demandant les identifiants de version ISAN associés à de telles
métadonnées complémentaires spécifiques), mais cela n'interdit pas à l'Autorité d'enregistrement de
fournir un tel service.

1 Domaine d'application
Le présent document établit un système volontaire pour l'identification des versions d'œuvres
audiovisuelles et d'autres contenus dérivés ou intimement liés à une œuvre audiovisuelle (voir Annexe A).
Il est fondé sur le système de Numéro international normalisé des œuvres audiovisuelles (ISAN) défini
dans l'ISO 15706-1. Un ISAN combiné avec le segment de version spécifié à l'Article 4 constitue un
identifiant de version ISAN, ci-après désigné V-ISAN. Un V-ISAN est un identifiant universel unique qui
identifie les versions d'une œuvre audiovisuelle et tout contenu qui lui est lié.
Un V-ISAN identifie toute sa vie durant une version particulière d'une œuvre audiovisuelle ou un autre
contenu qui lui est lié. Il a pour but d'être utilisé lorsqu'il est nécessaire d'identifier de manière précise
et unique une version particulière d'une œuvre audiovisuelle, ou tout contenu qui lui est lié, comme
dans les systèmes de production et de distribution audiovisuelles, dans les applications de télédiffusion,
les plateformes numériques et dans les guides de programmes électroniques.
Un V-ISAN identifie une version particulière d'une œuvre audiovisuelle ou un autre contenu qui lui est
lié en tant que combinaison unique d'éléments qui la composent (par exemple son contenu artistique,
ses langues, son montage et son format technique) toute sa vie durant et indépendamment de toute
présentation matérielle dans laquelle cette version ou son contenu est diffusé.
L'attribution d'un V-ISAN à une version d'une œuvre audiovisuelle ou à un contenu qui lui est lié ne sert
pas à attester la propriété de droits attachés à cette version, au contenu lié, ou à l'œuvre audiovisuelle
elle-même.
Le présent document spécifie les systèmes et procédures de base qui assurent l'attribution et
l'administration des V-ISAN.
