SIST EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.0:2006 is the Slovenian adoption of ETSI EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.0 for Environmental Engineering (EE) of telecommunications equipment. It specifies environmental test methods and severities for verifying the resistibility of telecom equipment used in portable and non-stationary conditions, so designers, test labs and quality teams can match tests to the intended use environment.
What does SIST EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.0:2006 specify?
SIST EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.0:2006 specifies the environmental tests used to verify telecom equipment against the environmental classes for portable and non-stationary use. The scope is limited to the environments covered by EN 300 019-1-7 [1].
The document is organized into:
- Clause 1 - Scope
- Clause 2 - References
- Clause 3 - Environmental test specifications
- Clause 4 - Notes to tables
- Annex A - Bibliography
Clause 3 gives the test specifications for the four use environments T 7.1, T 7.2, T 7.3 and T 7.3E, while clause 4 explains how to read the tables and when some tests are or are not recommended. That structure matters in practice because the environmental class and the intended use location determine which test set to apply.
What are the key requirements of SIST EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.0:2006?
SIST EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.0:2006 assumes the equipment under test is operational during the test conditions unless stated otherwise, and the product specification must define the required performance before, during and after testing. In practice, the test plan has to say what is measured and what pass/fail criteria apply.
How does clause 3 define the test setup?
Clause 3 says input and load conditions shall be chosen to obtain full utilization of the equipment under test, and heat dissipation shall be maximized except for the steady-state low-temperature test. That means the equipment should be stressed in a realistic worst-case operating state, not a lightly loaded one.
What do the environmental classes cover?
- T 7.1, in clause 3.1 and table 1, applies to permanently temperature-controlled enclosed locations. It focuses on indoor use and direct transfer between such locations.
- T 7.2, in clause 3.2 and table 2, applies to enclosed locations without temperature or humidity control, although heating may be used to avoid low temperatures. This is the class to use when the environment is less controlled but still not exposed to full outdoor weather.
- T 7.3, in clause 3.3 and table 3, applies to partly weatherprotected and non-weatherprotected locations, including transfer between them. This matters for equipment that can be used outdoors or moved in and out of protected areas.
- T 7.3E, in clause 3.4 and table 4, extends the non-weatherprotected case to a broader range of construction and colder exposure. It is the stricter choice when the equipment may face colder outdoor conditions.
Each of these tables combines climatic, chemical, mechanical and biological exposure categories, but only where the standard recommends a test method for that condition.
Which mechanical tests are part of the standard?
Tables 5 and 6 cover mechanical tests for T 7.1 to T 7.3E and distinguish portable IEC 721 classes 7M2 and 7M3. They include vibration, random vibration, shocks, bumps, free fall, and drop and topple.
This is important because portable equipment is exposed to handling, transport and movement as well as climate. Clause 4 notes that random vibration is considered more realistic than sinusoidal vibration, and that free fall is supplemented by drop and topple because the exact attitude of falling equipment cannot be fixed.
What do the notes change in practice?
Clause 4 explains how to interpret the table entries:
- the higher dry-heat value accounts for direct solar heat trap effects
- temperature change tests are used to check design tolerancing
- the rain test is a hand-held shower-type test
- chemically active substances and mechanically active substances are mainly design and material-selection considerations
- flora, fauna, dust and sand are also treated as design conditions in some cases rather than test conditions
That means the standard is not only a list of chamber settings - it also tells users where to test, where to monitor function, and where to make design decisions instead of running a separate laboratory test.
What terms does SIST EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.0:2006 define?
Portable and non-stationary use means telecom equipment intended to be moved, transferred or used in changing locations rather than fixed installation.
Temperature-controlled locations are enclosed places where temperature is controlled permanently, while humidity is usually not controlled.
Partly temperature-controlled locations are enclosed places without full temperature or humidity control, but where heating may be used to avoid low temperatures.
Partly weatherprotected and non-weatherprotected locations are places with limited or no protection from weather, including transfer between those locations.
Acceleration Spectral Density (ASD) is the vibration measure used in the random vibration tests in tables 5 and 6.
Characteristic severity is the environmental severity level used as the basis for the test recommendations and notes.
Resistibility is the ability of telecommunications equipment to withstand the environmental conditions defined for its class.
Who uses SIST EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.0:2006?
SIST EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.0:2006 is used by equipment designers, environmental test engineers, verification laboratories, quality managers and procurement teams working with telecommunications equipment. They use it to choose the correct environmental class, set up qualification tests, write product specifications and check whether portable or transportable equipment is fit for the intended locations.
It is most relevant for telecom terminal equipment and related products that are carried, moved or used outside fixed, fully controlled installations.
What changed in SIST EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.0:2006 from the previous edition?
The document history shows earlier publication as ETS 300 019-2-5, then V2.1.2, then V3.0.0. The history also records adoption through the one-step approval procedure before publication in December 2002.
Which standards are used with SIST EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.0:2006?
- EN 300 019-1-7 [1] - gives the environmental conditions and classes that this part tests against.
- IEC 60068-2 [2] - supplies the environmental test methods cited in the tables, such as cold, dry heat, damp heat, vibration, shock and bump.
- ETS 300 019-2-0 [3] - provides the general overview of part 2.
- ISO 4180-2 [4] - is used in the free-fall test notes for selecting fall heights by mass.
What does the SIST EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.0:2006 document contain?
SIST EN 300 019-2-7 V3.0.0:2006 contains four environmental test specification tables for T 7.1, T 7.2, T 7.3 and T 7.3E, plus two mechanical test tables for portable classes 7M2 and 7M3. It also contains notes that explain why certain tests are recommended, why some are not recommended, and how to apply the severities.
The document uses those tables to support design verification, environmental qualification and test planning for telecom equipment intended for portable and non-stationary use. Annex A provides the bibliography used by the standard.
