ABSTRACT
This specification is intended for consumer safety and establishes performance requirements, test methods, and marking requirements to promote safe use of bedside sleepers. It explains the test methods that are conducted on all bedside sleepers, namely the product disengagement test method, the product disengagement rationale, and the folding latch test method.
SCOPE
1.1 This consumer safety specification establishes performance requirements, test methods, and marking requirements to promote safe use of bedside sleepers.  
1.2 This consumer safety specification is intended to minimize the risk of injury to an infant from the normal use and reasonably foreseeable misuse of a bedside sleeper.

SCOPE
1.1 This consumer safety specification establishes testing requirements for structural integrity and performance requirements for non-full-size cribs/play yards, both rigid sided and mesh/fabric assemblies. It also provides requirements for labeling and instructional material. The term unit or product will refer to a non-full-size crib/play yard.  
1.2 This specification covers a framed enclosure with a floor made for the purpose of providing sleeping or playing accommodations, or both, for a child who cannot climb out and is less than 35 in. (890 mm) in height. It also covers bassinet, changing table, or similar accessories to a non-full size crib/play yard. These accessories shall also comply with the applicable requirements of ASTM standards addressing those accessories. For example, a changing table that attaches to a play yard shall also comply with the applicable requirements in Specification F2388. This specification does not cover inflatable products.

1.3.1.3 Multi-use products when they are in the bassinet/cradle or compact bassinet/cradle use mode as defined in 3.1.1 or 3.1.3.
1.3.1.4 Bassinet/cradle accessories to products when removed from the product and used in the bassinet/cradle mode or as a compact bassinet/cradle product. See 3.1.2 for an example.

The torque, tension, structural integrity, and stability shall be tested to meet the requirements prescribed. Each changing table and add-on changing unit or contoured changing pad, sold separately, and its retail package shall be marked or labeled clearly and legibly to indicate the following: name and place of business (city, state, and mailing address, including zip code) or telephone number of either the manufacturer, distributor, or seller; and code mark or other means that identifies the date (month and year as a minimum) of manufacture. Instructions shall be provided with or permanently attached or printed on the changing table, add-on changing unit, or contoured changing pad and shall be easy to read and understand. These instructions shall include information regarding assembly, maintenance, cleaning, and use of the product.
SCOPE
