5.2.2.1 The hinge bolt provided with each rat guard shall

5.2.2.2 The galvanized steel or aluminum sleeve shall be
slotted as specified in Table 2 and Fig. 2, so that when the rat
guard is in place, it may be drawn tightly against the hawser,
with lashing. The formed sleeves shall be tapered to permit
nesting of the rat guards, for compact shipping.

Standard Test Method for Shock Testing of Structural Insulation of A-Class Divisions Constructed of Steel or Aluminum

ABSTRACT
This specification covers a method for evaluating insulation installed on steel or aluminium structural division as defined in IMO resolution A. 754 (18) to assure insulation is note degraded in the event of shock. The non-combustible passive fire protection insulation shall be installed to meet the highest level of commercial fire resistance expected. Lower levels of fire resistance will be allowed without additional shock level testing. This testing method is used to measure and describe the response of materials, products, or assemblies to heat and flame under controlled conditions. This specification also provides guidelines for shock test before conducting a fire resistance test. In the shock test, the fire resistant divisions, bulkheads and decks shall be tested according to the specifics required by the MIlL-S-901D, Section 3.2.1 (b) Medium Weight Shock Test.
SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
4.1 This test method evaluates the ability of a non-combustible passive fire protection system installed on structural divisions on commercial ships to function after shock loading.  
4.2 The shock loading is accomplished by conducting impact testing of a test specimen consisting of insulation on a standard steel or aluminum structural core installed on a medium weight shock test machine.  
4.3 Following the shock testing the shocked test specimen and an unshocked test specimen are tested for fire resistance. Both shocked and unshocked test specimens are installed side-by-side in a fixture and fire tested at the same time.  
4.4 The fire resistance for both specimens is measured and recorded.  
4.5 Other passive fire protection systems using the same insulation materials and attachment methods and having lower fire resistance ratings will be accepted without additional shock testing.
SCOPE
1.1 The purpose of the specification is to evaluate insulation installed on steel or aluminum structural division as defined in IMO Resolution A.754 (18) to ensure the insulation is not degraded in the event of a shock.  
1.2 The non-combustible passive fire protection insulation shall be installed, which will meet the highest level of commercial fire resistance expected. Lower levels of fire resistance will be allowed without additional shock testing.

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
4.1 The methanol wall wash practice is performed to determine the cleanliness and suitability of cargo tanks or compartments on a marine vessel prior to loading polyester grade monoethylene glycol. Polyester grade monoethylene glycol has very high quality requirements and must be handled with care, as it is adversely affected by oxygen, hydrocarbons, water, and chloride. It is especially susceptible to aromatic contamination, which degrades UV transmittance. Possible sources of contamination are the prior cargoes and cleaning agents. The methanol wall wash procedure provides a representative sampling of the impurities and contamination present on the sides of the cargo tank.

4.1 This test method evaluates the ability of a non-combustible passive fire protection system installed on structural divisions on commercial ships to function after shock loading.  
4.2 The shock loading is accomplished by conducting impact testing of a test specimen consisting of insulation on a standard steel or aluminum structural core installed on a medium weight shock test machine.  
4.3 Following the shock testing the shocked test specimen and an unshocked test specimen are tested for fire resistance. Both shocked and unshocked test specimens are installed side-by-side in a fixture and fire tested at the same time.  
4.4 The fire resistance for both specimens is measured and recorded.  
4.5 Other passive fire protection systems using the same insulation materials and attachment methods and having lower fire resistance ratings will be accepted without additional shock testing.
SCOPE
1.1 The purpose of the specification is to evaluate insulation installed on steel or aluminum structural division as defined in IMO Resolution A.754 (18) to ensure the insulation is not degraded in the event of a shock.  
1.2 The non-combustible passive fire protection insulation shall be installed, which will meet the highest level of commercial fire resistance expected. Lower levels of fire resistance will be allowed without additional shock testing.  
1.3 This test method is used to measure and describe the response of materials, products, or assemblies to heat and flame under controlled conditions, but does not by itself incorporate all factors required for fire-hazard or fire-risk assessment of the materials, products or assemblies under actual fire conditions.  
1.4 Fire testing is inherently hazardous. Adequate safeguards for personnel and property shall be employed in conducting these tests.  
1.5 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Standard Test Method for Shear Fatigue of Sandwich Core Materials

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 Often the most critical stress to which a sandwich panel core is subjected is shear. The effect of repeated shear stresses on the core material can be very important, particularly in terms of durability under various environmental conditions.  
5.2 This test method provides a standard method of obtaining the sandwich core shear fatigue response. Uses include screening candidate core materials for a specific application, developing a design-specific core shear cyclic stress limit, and core material research and development.
Note 3: This test method may be used as a guide to conduct spectrum loading. This information can be useful in the understanding of fatigue behavior of core under spectrum loading conditions, but is not covered in this standard.  
5.3 Factors that influence core fatigue response and shall therefore be reported include the following: core material, core geometry (density, cell size, orientation, etc.), specimen geometry and associated measurement accuracy, specimen preparation, specimen conditioning, environment of testing, specimen alignment, loading procedure, loading frequency, force (stress) ratio and speed of testing (for residual strength tests).
Note 4: If a sandwich panel is tested using the guidance of this standard, the following may also influence the fatigue response and should be reported: facing material, adhesive material, methods of material fabrication, adhesive thickness and adhesive void content. Further, core-to-facing strength may be different between precured/bonded and co-cured facings in sandwich panels with the same core and facing materials.
SCOPE
1.1 This test method determines the effect of repeated shear forces on core material used in sandwich panels. Permissible core material forms include those with continuous bonding surfaces (such as balsa wood and foams) as well as those with discontinuous bonding surfaces (such as honeycomb).  
1.2 This test method is limited to test specimens subjected to constant amplitude uniaxial loading, where the machine is controlled so that the test specimen is subjected to repetitive constant amplitude force (stress) cycles. Either shear stress or applied force may be used as a constant amplitude fatigue variable.  
1.3 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard.
