SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
This test method is intended for use primarily as a means of comparing the performance of unitizing films. It can also be used to compare the effectiveness of different wrap cycles with the same wrapping materials. No direct correlation between these test results and actual field performance has been established.
This test method simulates mechanical handling anticipated during all distribution phases.
This test method leaves open to the discretion of the user the establishment of test levels and numbers of cycles constituting the test, so that the user might tailor the test to simulate a particular distribution environment. The section on mechanical handling over 100 pounds (45 kg) in Practice D 4169 may provide some guidance in this regard.
SCOPE
1.1 This test method covers evaluation and comparison of the ability of unitizing films to survive various methods of mechanical handling.
1.2 The test method described is applicable to common means of material handling, including the following: forklift, push/pull, clamp truck, crane, and spade lift-type handling systems.
1.3 The test levels may be varied to reflect known levels of intensity accurately for the specific unit load under testing.
1.4 The methodology of performing the mechanical handling tests is described in detail in Test Methods D 6055 and Test Methods D 6179. This test method will describe only sample preparation and evaluation in the special case of evaluating the performance of stretch film for load unitizing.

Standard Guide for Collecting Performance Data on Temporary Storage Devices

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
4.1 This guide covers the collection of quantitative data in the form of storage capacity, strength of materials, filling and offloading rates, and towability under controlled test conditions. The data can be used for evaluating the design characteristics of a particular temporary storage device or as a means of comparing two or more devices. Caution must be exercised whenever the test data are used to predict performance in actual spill situations since the uncontrolled environmental conditions that affect performance in the field are rarely identical to conditions in the test facility. Other variables such as mechanical reliability, the presence of debris, ease of repair, required operator training, operator fatigue, and transportability also affect performance in an actual spill but are not included in this guide. These variables should be considered along with the test data when making comparisons or evaluations of temporary storage devices.  
4.2 Although this guide provides data on the performance of temporary storage devices, all of the combinations of actual conditions of use are not simulated in this series of tests. In particular, the resistance of the device to grounding, abrasion resistance of the container body, venting of the device during loading, and other operational issues not covered by this guide should be considered along with the test data when making comparisons or evaluations of temporary storage devices.

Standard Test Method for Drying Shrinkage of Mortar Containing Hydraulic Cement

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
4.1 This test method establishes a selected set of conditions of temperature, relative humidity and rate of evaporation of the environment to which a mortar specimen of stated composition shall be subjected for a specified period of time during which its change in length is determined and designated “drying shrinkage.”  
4.2 The drying shrinkage of mortar as determined by this test method has a linear relation to the drying shrinkage of concrete made with the same cement and exposed to the same drying conditions.4 Hence this test method may be used when it is desired to develop data on the effect of a hydraulic cement on the drying shrinkage of concrete made with that cement.

1.4 The guide is organized by habitat type, for example, small ponds and lakes, rivers and streams, and land. It considers the use of dispersants primarily to protect habitats from impact (or to minimize impacts).
