Safety of toys - Part 2: Flammability
This part of EN 71 specifies the categories of flammable materials which are prohibited in all toys, and requirements concerning flammability of certain toys when they are subjected to a small source of ignition.
The test methods described in clause 5 are used for the purposes of determining the flammability of toys under the particular test conditions specified. The test results thus obtained cannot be considered as providing an overall indication of the potential fire hazard of toys or materials when subjected to other sources of ignition.
This part includes general requirements relating to all toys and specific requirements and methods of test relating to the following toys, which are considered as being those presenting the greatest hazard:
- beards, moustaches, wigs, etc, made from hair, pile or similar material (e.g. free-hanging ribbons, paper or cloth strands, etc), which are worn on the head. (These materials may or may not be attached to masks, hats or other products worn on the head, but exclude paper novelty hats usually found in party crackers);
- disguise costumes (e.g. cowboy outfits, nurse's uniforms, etc.) and toys intended to be worn by a child including items worn on the head, but excluding those items covered by 4.2. (These requirements also apply to long flowing shrouds, hoods, head-dresses, etc, which might be attached to hats, masks, etc.);
- moulded masks which cover the face and fully cover the head;
- masks made from fabric which fully cover the head;
- toys intended to be entered by a child (e.g. toy tents, puppet theatres, wigwams, play tunnels);
- soft filled toys (animals and dolls, etc.) with a pile surface or textile surface but excluding soft filled toys in the form of activity quilts.
NOTE Additional requirements for flammability of electric toys are specified in EN 50088 Safety of Electric Toys.
Sicherheit von Spielzeug - Teil 2: Entflammbarkeit
Diese Europäische Norm legt die Kategorien entflammbarer Werkstoffe fest, deren Verwendung in allen Spielzeugen verboten ist, und Anforderungen hinsichtlich der Entflammbarkeit bestimmter Spielzeuge, wenn sie einer kleinen Zündquelle ausgesetzt werden.
Die in Abschnitt 5 beschriebenen Prüfverfahren werden zur Bestimmung der Entflammbarkeit von Spielzeug unter den produktspezifisch festgelegten Prüfbedingungen angewendet. Die so erhaltenen Prüfergebnisse können nicht dahingehend betrachtet werden, dass sie umfassende Angaben für die mögliche Brandgefährdung von Spielzeugen oder Werkstoffen zur Verfügung stellen, wenn diese anderen Zündquellen ausgesetzt werden.
Dieser Teil enthält auch allgemeine Anforderungen hinsichtlich aller Spielzeuge und besondere Anforderungen und Prüfverfahren für folgende Spielzeuge, die als am gefährlichsten angesehen werden:
Auf dem Kopf zu tragende Spielzeuge einsDiese europäische Norm legt Anforderungen an und Prüfverfahren für Aktivitätsspielzeug für den häuslichen Gebrauch fest, das an einem Querbalken angebracht ist oder diesen einschließt, und ähnliches Spielzeug für Kinder unter 14 Jahren, vorgesehen zum Spielen darauf oder darin und zum Tragen des Gewichts eines oder mehrerer Kinder. Der Anwendungsbereich schließt Geräte aus die für den Gebrauch in Schulen, Kchließlich Bärte, Schnurrbärte, Perücken usw. aus Haar, haarartigem Material oder Material mit ähnlichen Merkmalen, geformte und Textilmasken, und fließendes Material, das an Hüten, Masken usw. befestigt ist, außer Partyhüten aus Papier, wie sie üblicherweise in Knallbonbons zu finden sind;
Rollenspielzeug und Spielzeuge, die vom Kind als Bekleidung zum Spielen getragen werden;
Vom Kind begehbares Spielzeug;
Spielzeug mit weicher Füllung (Tiere, Puppen usw.) mit haarartiger oder textiler Oberfläche.
ANMERKUNG Zusätzliche Anforderungen hinsichtlich der Entflammbarkeit von elektrischem Spielzeug sind in EN 50088, Sicherheit von elektrischem Spielzeug, festgelegt.
Sécurité des jouets - Partie 2: Inflammabilité
La présente partie de l'EN 71 spécifie les catégories de matériaux inflammables dont l'emploi est prohibé pour tous les jouets, ainsi que les exigences relatives à l'inflammabilité de certains jouets lorsqu'ils sont soumis à une petite source d'allumage.
Les méthodes d'essai décrites à l'article 5 sont utilisées pour déterminer l'inflammabilité des jouets dans des conditions d'essai particulières spécifiées. Les résultats d'essai ainsi obtenus ne peuvent pas être considérés comme une information générale sur le risque au feu des jouets ou des matériaux lorsqu'ils sont soumis à d'autres sources d'allumage.
La présente partie traite des exigences générales relatives à tous les jouets et des exigences et des méthodes d'essai particulières concernant les jouets suivants, qui sont considérés comme ceux présentant les risques les plus importants :
¾ les jouets conçus pour être portés sur la tête comportant des barbes, moustaches, perruques, etc., constituées de cheveux, éléments pileux ou autres matériaux présentant des fonctions similaires, les masques moulés, masques en tissu et matériaux flottants fixés aux chapeaux, masques, etc., à l'exclusion des chapeaux fantaisie en papier, tels que ceux fournis dans les diablotins ;
¾ les costumes de déguisement et jouets destinés à être portés par l'enfant au cours du jeu ;
¾ les jouets conçus pour qu'un enfant puisse y entrer ;
¾ les jouets souples rembourrés (animaux et poupées, etc.) comportant une surface pileuse ou textile.
NOTE Des exigences supplémentaires relatives à l'inflammabilité des jouets électriques sont spécifiées dans l'EN 50088 Sécurité des jouets électriques.
