  • Instructions should advise on safe use, folding/unfolding procedures, and locking devices.
• Other specific warnings
  • Liquid-filled teethers: “Cool only in a refrigerator. Do not place in the freezer compartment.”
  • Monofilament fibres: items with straightened length > 50 mm must warn “Not suitable for children under 10 months due to long hair.”
  • Latex balloons: required information must be on the balloons or an accompanying leaflet if no packaging.
• Editorial and figure renumbering
  • Multiple updates renumbered figures used for test probes, small parts, apparatus and test procedures (figure references updated across clauses).

Foreword
This document (EN 71-1:2005/prA7:2007) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 52 “Safety of
toys”, the secretariat of which is held by DS.
This document is currently submitted to the CEN Enquiry.
This document has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the
European Free Trade Association, and supports essential requirements of EU Directive(s).
For relationship with EU Directive(s), see informative Annex ZA, B, C or D, which is an integral part of this
document.
4.10.4 Springs
Amend "(see Figure 16, accessibility probe)" to "(see Figure 17, accessibility probe)".
4.15.3 Rocking horses and similar toys (see A.21)
Add the the following:
"e) Toys where the intended sitting surface is 600 mm or more above the ground, shall carry a warning (see
7.20)."
7.1 General
Add the following two last paragraphs of 7.1:
"In the following clauses, the location of the warnings is indicated: on the toy and/or on the packaging and in
the instructions for use.
For toys offered for sale without packaging, the warning required on the packaging may appear on the toy and,
if appropriate, on a leaflet accompanying the toy and in the instructions for use as long as the warning is
visible for the consumer when purchased."
The wording “shall carry a warning” means that the warning shall appear on the toy itself."
7.2 Toys not intended for children under 36 months (see A.34)
Amend 7.2 to read:
"The provisions in 7.2 do not apply to toys which, on account of their function, dimensions, characteristics,
properties or other cogent grounds, are clearly unsuitable for children under 36 months. Toys which are not
intended for but might be dangerous for children under 36 months shall carry a warning, for example:
"Warning! Not suitable for children under 36 months" or "Warning! Not suitable for children under
three years"
together with a brief indication of the specific hazard calling for this restriction.

When more than one hazard is present, at least the principal hazard shall be indicated.
