Other special half couplers such as half couplers attached by riveting, used mainly for prefabricated members of scaffolds, are outside the scope of this document.

This document applies to edge protection systems for flat and inclined surfaces and specifies the requirements for three classes of temporary edge protection.
For edge protection systems with an arrest function (e.g. falling or sliding down a sloping roof) this standard specifies requirements for energy absorption.
This standard includes edge protection systems, some of which are fixed to the structure and others, which rely on gravity and friction on flat surfaces.
This standard does not provide requirements for edge protection systems intended for:
- protection against impact from vehicles or from other mobile equipment,
- protection from sliding down of bulk loose materials, snow etc,
- protection of areas accessible to the public.
This standard does not apply to side protection on scaffolds according to EN 12811-1 and EN 1004.
NOTE This does not prevent these systems to be used on temporary structures.

This European Standard specifies product requirements, methods of structural and general design and tests for protection fans for scaffolds to protect workers as well as members of public from objects that may fall off the outside edge of scaffolds being used close to where they are working or passing by.
This European Standard only applies to protection fans while the scaffold is being used as a working place.
Protection fans attached to structures other than scaffolds as defined in EN 12811 1 are outside the scope of this European Standard.
This European Standard applies only to protection fan systems on to which construction debris may fall from 24 m or less.
This European Standard ensures resistance of protection fans for most blunt falling objects representing an impacting energy not exceeding 720 J.
NOTE   This energy corresponds to a 3 kg object falling from 24 m.
This European Standard does not cover the requirements for the total area to be protected against falling items.

It sets out the rules that have to be taken into account to produce a safe falsework structure.
It also provides information where falsework is required to support a "permanent structure", or where the design or supply of falsework has to be commissioned.
This European Standard also gives information on foundations.
This European Standard does not specify requirements for formwork, although formwork may be a part of the falsework construction. Nor does it provide information on access and working scaffolds, which is given in EN 12811-1.
This European Standard does not provide information about site activities. It does not provide information about the use of some standardized products, including timber formwork beams conforming to EN 13377 and props conforming to EN 1065.
