This European standard specifies the safety requirements and type tests for self-propelled rubber tyred vehicles intended primarily for use in underground mines. This European standard identifies and takes account of the hazards arising from the use in mines of such equipment and describes methods for the elimination or reduction of these hazards and for the safeguarding of personnel machinery. These hazards are listed under clause 4.

1.1 Diese Europäische Norm legt Sicherheitsanforderungen und Prüfungen für selbstfahrende gummibereifte Gleislosfahrzeuge (definiert in Abschnitt 3) fest, die vorrangig zur Verwendung im Bergbau unter Tage (d. h. Bergbaufahrzeuge) und andere Arbeiten unter Tage (z. B. Fahrzeuge für den Tunnelbau) bestimmt sind. Die Netzspannung ist auf 1100 V Wechselstrom und 1500 V Gleichstrom begrenzt.
1.2 Diese Europäische Norm behandelt die technischen Anforderungen zur Minimierung der in Abschnitt 4 aufgeführten Gefährdungen, die während der Inbetriebnahme, dem Fahrvorgang und der Instandhaltung gummibereifter Fahrzeuge entstehen, wenn diese Vorgänge in Übereinstimmung mit den vom Hersteller oder seinem autorisierten Vertreter angegebenen Spezifikationen ausgeführt werden.
1.3 Diese Europäische Norm gilt nicht für gummibereifte Bohrgeräte, die in EN 791 behandelt werden, oder Erdbaumaschinen, die nicht vorrangig zur Verwendung im Bergbau unter Tage bestimmt sind und in den Normen der Reihe EN 474 behandelt werden. Diese Europäische Norm berücksichtigt nicht besondere Gefährdungen durch Spezialfahrzeuge, z. B. Tankfahrzeuge und Sprengfahrzeuge.
Diese Europäische Norm gilt nicht für den Betrieb in explosionsfähigen Atmosphären, welcher von einer anderen Europäischen Norm abgedeckt wird. Gefährdungen verursacht durch Lärm sind aus dieser Norm ausgeschlossen, aber eine andere Norm, in der Gefährdungen durch Lärm behandelt werden, ist in Vorbereitung. In dieser Europäische Norm werden Fernsteuerungen, Strahlung und Vibrationen nicht berücksichtigt. Jegliche am Fahrzeug angebrachte Ausrüstung, die nicht dem Zweck der Fahrbewegung gilt, wird nicht berücksichtigt.
1.4 Diese Europäische Norm gilt für Fahrzeuge, die nach Inkrafttreten dieser Norm hergestellt werden.

La présente Norme européenne spécifie les exigences de sécurité et les essais des véhicules automoteurs sur roues équipés de pneumatiques (définis à l'article 3) destinés principalement à une utilisation dans des mines souterraines (c'est-à-dire véhicules de mines) et à d'autres travaux de fond (par exemple tunneliers). La tension d'alimentation électrique est limitée à 1 100 C.A. et 1 500 C.C.
1.2 La présente Norme européenne traite des exigences techniques visant à réduire au minimum les phénomènes dangereux énumérés à l'article 4 susceptibles de se produire lors de la mise en service, du déplacement et des opérations de maintenance des véhicules sur roues équipés de pneumatiques lorsqu'ils se déroulent conformément aux spécifications données par le constructeur ou son représentant autorisé.
1.3 La présente Norme européenne ne couvre pas les appareils de forage sur roues équipés de pneumatiques, couverts par l'EN 791, ou les engins de terrassement qui ne sont pas principalement destinés à une utilisation dans des mines souterraines, et qui sont couverts par la série de normes EN 474. La présente Norme européenne ne tient pas compte des phénomènes dangereux spécifiques associés aux véhicules à usage particulier, par exemple les véhicules citernes et de transport d'explosifs.
La présente Norme européenne ne traite pas de l'exploitation dans des atmosphères explosibles, qui est couverte par une autre norme européenne. Les phénomènes dangereux dus au bruit sont exclus de la présente norme, mais une norme séparée traitant de ces derniers est en cours d'élaboration. La présente Norme européenne ne traite pas non plus de la commande à distance, ni des rayonnements et des vibrations. Enfin, elle ne couvre pas les équipements installés sur le véhicule à des fins autres que le déplacement.
1.4 La présente Norme européenne s'applique aux véhicules fabriqués après sa date de publication.

Introduction
This European Standard is a type C standard as stated in EN 1070.
The machinery concerned and the extent to which hazards, hazardous situations and events are covered are indicated in
the scope of this document.
The standard takes into account the current state of the art and technical facilities to use in order to exclude or prevent, as
far as possible, hazards when rubber tyred vehicles are used underground.
When compiling this standard it has been assumed that:
- components are:
a) designed in accordance with the good engineering practice and calculation codes, taking account of shocks and
vibration, including all failure modes;
b) of sound mechanical and electrical construction;
c) made of materials with adequate strength and of suitable quality; and
d) free of defects.
- harmful materials, such as asbestos are not used.
- components are kept in good repair and working order, so that the required dimensions remain fulfilled despite wear.
- negotiations have taken place between the manufacturer, or authorised representative, and the purchaser and /or user
(e.g. for fire resistant fluids, safety equipment, load restraining devices, use of surface machines not intended primarily for
use in mines).
1 Scope
1.1 This European Standard specifies the safety requirements and tests for self-propelled rubber tyred vehicles (defined
in clause 3) intended primarily for use in underground mining (i.e. mine vehicles) and other underground workings (e.g.
tunnelling vehicles). The electrical supply voltage is limited to 1100 A.C. and 1500 D.C.
1.2 This European Standard deals with the technical requirements to minimise the hazards listed in clause 4 which can
arise during the commissioning, the travelling operation and the maintenance of rubber tyred vehicles when carried out in
accordance with the specifications given by the manufacturer or his authorized representative.
1.3 This European Standard does not include rubber tyred drilling rigs, which are covered by EN 791, or earth moving
machinery not intended primarily for use in underground mines, which are covered by EN 474 series. This European
Standard does not take account of specific hazards associated with special-purpose vehicles, e.g. tankers, explosives
vehicles.
This European Standard does not address operation in potentially explosive atmospheres, which is covered by another
European Standard. Hazards due to noise are excluded from this standard, but a separate standard is in preparation
where hazards due to noise will be addressed. This European Standard does not address remote control or deal with
radiation and vibration. It does not deal with any equipment installed on the vehicle for purposes other than travelling.
1.4 This European Standard applies to vehicles which are manufactured after the date of issue of this standard.
