This European Standard specifies a method of analytical evaluation and interpretation of the thermal stress experienced by a subject in a hot environment. It describes a method of calculation the heat balance as well as the sweat rate that the human body should produce to maintain this balance in equilibrium: this sweat rate is called the "required sweat rate".

Diese Internationale Norm gibt ein Verfahren zur analytischen Bestimmung und Interpretation der Wärmebelastung an, der eine Person in warmen Umgebungsklima ausgesetzt ist. Sie enthält ein Verfahren sowohl zur Berechnung der Wärme- bilanz als auch der Schweissrate, die der menschliche Körper produzieren muss, um diese Bilanz im Gleichgewicht zu halten: Diese Schweissrate wird die "erforderliche Schweissrate" genannt.

La présente Norme internationale spécifie une méthode d'évaluation analytique et d'interprétation de la cotnrainte thermique subie par un sujet en ambiance thermique chaude. Elle décrit les modes de calcul du bilan thermique ainsi que du débit de sueur que l'organisme humain doit mettre en oeuvre pour assurer l'équilibre de ce bilan: ce débit de sueur est appelé "sudation requise".
