Cranes - General Design - Part 3-1: Limit States and proof competence of steel structure

This European Standard is to be used together with EN 13001-1 and EN 13001-2 and as such they specify general conditions, requirements and methods to prevent mechanical hazards of cranes by design and theoretical verification.
NOTE   Specific requirements for particular types of cranes are given in the appropriate European Standard for the particular crane type.
The following is a list of significant hazardous situations and hazardous events that could result in risks to persons during intended use and reasonably foreseeable misuse. Clauses 4 to 8 of this standard are necessary to reduce or eliminate risks associated with the following hazards:
a)   exceeding the limits of strength (yield, ultimate, fatigue);
b)   exceeding temperature limits of material or components;
c)   elastic instability of the crane or its parts (buckling, bulging).
This European Standard is not applicable to cranes which are manufactured before the date of its publication as EN and serves as reference base for the European Standards for particular crane types (see Annex I).
NOTE   EN 13001-3-1 deals only with the limit state method in accordance with EN 13001-1.

Krane - Konstruktion allgemein - Teil 3-1: Grenzzustände und Sicherheitsnachweis von Stahltragwerken

Diese Europäische Norm ist zusammen mit EN 13001-1 und EN 13001-2 anzuwenden. Sie legen allgemeine Bedingungen, Anforderungen und Methoden zur Vermeidung mechanischer Gefahren von Kranen durch Konstruktion und theoretische Nachweisverfahren fest.
ANMERKUNG Spezifische Anforderungen an spezielle Krantypen sind in der jeweiligen Europäischen Norm für den speziellen Krantyp enthalten.
Im Folgenden ist eine Liste der signifikanten Gefährdungssituationen und Gefährdungsereignisse aufgeführt, die Risiken für Personen bei Normaleinsatz und vorhersehbarem Missbrauch zur Folge haben könnten. Die Abschnitte 4 bis 8 dieser Norm enthalten Vorgaben zur Verminderung oder Ausschaltung von Risiken, die mit folgenden Gefahren verbunden sind:
a) Überschreiten der Festigkeitsgrenzwerte (Fließen, Bruch, Ermüdung);
b) Überschreiten der Temperaturgrenzwerte des Werkstoffs oder der Komponenten;
c) elastische Instabilität des Krans oder seiner Teile (Knicken, Beulen).
Diese Europäische Norm gilt nicht für Krane, die vor dem Datum der Veröffentlichung dieser Norm als EN gefertigt werden, und dient als Referenzgrundlage für Europäische Normen für spezielle Krantypen (siehe Anhang I).
ANMERKUNG EN 13001-3-1 umfasst nur die Methode der Grenzzustände entsprechend EN 13001-1.

Appareils de levage à charge suspendue - Conception générale - Partie 3-1 : Etats limites et vérification d'aptitude des charpentes en acier

La présente Norme européenne doit être utilisée conjointement avec l’EN 13001-1 et l’EN 13001-2. Dans ce cadre, elles spécifient les conditions générales, les prescriptions et les méthodes visant à prévenir les dangers mécaniques liés aux appareils de levage à charge suspendue par la conception et la vérification théorique.
NOTE   Les prescriptions spécifiques liées à des types particuliers d’appareil de levage à charge suspendue sont données dans la Norme européenne correspondant au type particulier d’appareil de levage à charge suspendue.
Une liste des situations dangereuses et événements dangereux significatifs susceptibles de mettre en danger la vie des personnes lors de l’utilisation prévue et d’une mauvaise utilisation raisonnablement prévisible de l’appareil de levage à charge suspendue est donnée ci-dessous. Les Articles 4 à 8 de la présente norme sont nécessaires à la réduction ou l’élimination des risques liés aux dangers ci-dessous :
a)   dépassement des limites de résistance (limite d’élasticité, résistance à la traction, fatigue) ;
b)   dépassement des limites de température du matériau ou des composants ;
c)   instabilité élastique de l’appareil de levage à charge suspendue ou de ses parties (flambage, voilement).
La présente Norme européenne s’applique aux appareils de levage à charge suspendue fabriqués après la date de publication en Norme européenne et fait office de référence pour les Normes européennes relatives aux types particuliers d’appareil de levage à charge suspendue (voir l’Annexe I).
NOTE   L’EN 13001-3-1 traite uniquement de la méthode des États Limites conformément à l’EN 13001-1.

amendment, CEN members are bound to comply with the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations which stipulate the conditions for
inclusion of this amendment into the relevant national standard without any alteration.

This draft amendment was established by CEN in three official versions (English, French, German). A version in any other
language made by translation under the responsibility of a CEN member into its own language and notified to the CEN-CENELEC
Management Centre has the same status as the official versions.

Hydraulic piping, hoses and connectors used with the cylinders are not within the scope of this document, as well as cylinders made from other material than carbon steel.

This European Standard is to be used together with EN 13001-1 and EN 13001-2 and, as such, they specify general conditions, requirements and methods to prevent by design and theoretical verification, mechanical hazards in crane hooks.
This European Standard covers the following parts of hooks and types of hooks:
-   bodies of any type of hooks made of steel forgings;
-   machined shanks of hooks with a thread/nut suspension.
Principles of this European Standard can be applied to machined shanks of hooks in general. However, stress concentration factors relevant to designs not given in this standard would have to be determined and applied.
NOTE 1   Cast hooks and plate hooks, which are those, assembled of one or several parallel parts of rolled steel plates, are not covered in this European Standard.
The following is a list of significant hazardous situations and hazardous events that could result in risks to persons during normal use and foreseeable misuse. Clauses 4 to 8 of this document are necessary to reduce or eliminate the risks associated with the following hazards:
a)   exceeding the limits of strength (yield, ultimate, fatigue);
b)   exceeding temperature limits of material.
The requirements of this European Standard are stated in the main body of the document and are applicable to forged hook designs in general.
The commonly used hook body and shank designs listed in Annexes A, B and F are only examples and should not be referred to as requirements of this European Standard. Annex I gives guidance for the selection of a hook size, where a hook body is in accordance with Annex A or B. The selection of hook form is not limited to those shown in Annexes A and B.
This European Standard is applicable to cranes, which are manufactured after the date of approval of this European Standard by CEN, and serves as a reference base for product standards of particular crane types.
NOTE 2   This part of EN 13001 deals only with the limit state method in accordance with EN 13001-1.

This document provides requirements for all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to light offshore cranes for lifting of goods and lifting of persons, when used as intended and under conditions foreseen by the risk assessment (see Clause 4).
This document is applicable to light offshore cranes, which are manufactured after the date of approval by CEN of this document.
This document is not applicable for:
a)   transportation, assembly, disabling, scrapping, installation or erecting of the crane;
b)   any item attached to the hook, such as loads, non-fixed load lifting attachments, lifting accessories, baskets, carriers and containers;
c)   lifting operations in ambient temperatures below −20 °C;
d)   lifting operations in ambient temperatures above 45 °C;
e)   lifting operations involving more than one crane;
f)   accidental loads as result of collisions, earthquakes, explosions, etc., which are not covered by exceptional loads defined in Table B.7;
g)   emergency personnel rescue operations (except training);
h)   subsea lifting operations;
i)   general purpose offshore cranes (covered by EN 13852-1), floating cranes and motion compensated cranes.

Crane safety - General design - Part 2: Load actions

This document specifies load actions and load combinations for the calculation of load effects as basis for the proof of competence of a crane and its main components. It will be used together with the other generic parts of the EN 13001 series of standards, see Annex E. This document specifies design requirements for non-powered access installed on cranes.
NOTE 1 For other type of access, a requirement for information to be supplied is specified.
Slidable, retractable means of access are excluded from the scope, except movable hoop guards.
This document covers means of access to control stations and all access required for maintenance, certain erection and dismantling operations.
For those cranes which are intended to be erected and dismantled frequently to change their places of work, specific requirements for the access needed during these operations are not covered by this document and should be given in the appropriate European Standards for specific crane types.

The requirements given in this document do not take into account the safety distances related to:
- guarding against hazard from moving parts;
- relative movement between crane and adjacent structure or the ground/floor;
- hazardous surface temperature;
- electrical equipment.

This document defines the safety characteristics and requirements of anti-collision devices and systems intended for installation on self-erecting tower cranes and tower cranes erected from parts.
In particular:
-   performance level;
-   information to be provided by the sensors installed on the crane;
-   operation, particularly in the event of failure, override and free jib slewing states of a crane;
-   type of communication between devices;
-   information for the crane operator and outside indicator.
It also specifies the requirements for marking the device or the system and the content of the instructions for use.

This document specifies minimum requirements for design, calculation, examinations and tests of hydraulic powered loader cranes and their mountings on vehicles or static foundations.
This document applies to loader cranes designed to be installed on:
-   road vehicles, including trailers, with load carrying capability;
-   tractors (road or agricultural), where only a towed trailer has capability to carry goods;
-   demountable bodies to be carried by any of the above;
-   other types of carriers (e.g. separate loaders, crawlers, rail vehicles, non-seagoing vessels);
-   static foundations.
This document also applies to loader cranes equipped with special tools or interchangeable equipment (e.g. grapple, clamshell bucket, pallet clamp, etc.), as specified in the operator’s manual.
This document does not apply to loader cranes used on board sea going vessels or to articulated boom system cranes which are designed as total integral parts of special equipment such as forwarders.
The hazards covered by this document are identified in Clause 4.
This document does not cover hazards related to the lifting of persons.
NOTE   The use of cranes for lifting of persons can be subject to specific national regulations.
This document is not applicable to loader cranes manufactured before the publication of this document. For loader cranes designed before the publication of this document, the provisions concerning stress calculations in the version of EN 12999 that was valid at the time of their design, are still applicable.
