Overview

EN IEC 62841-2-22:2025/A11:2025 (CENELEC amendment A11) is a European amendment to the Part 2-22 safety requirements for electric motor‑operated hand‑held cut‑off machines. It is intended to be read together with EN 62841‑1:2015 (General requirements). Approved by CENELEC (2025-11-10), this amendment updates marking, moisture resistance, construction, supply‑cord requirements, noise/vibration measurement set‑ups and battery‑tool safety provisions to align product safety, testing and conformity with EU requirements (including Directive 2006/42/EC).

Key topics and requirements

  • Scope and status
    • Amendment A11 modifies EN IEC 62841‑2‑22:2025 and is to be implemented nationally by 2026‑12‑31.
  • Marking and instructions
    • Changes made to Clause 8 (e.g., deletion of NOTE 101 in 8.2) - affects required user information and warnings.
  • Moisture resistance and construction
    • Modifications to Clause 14 and Clause 21 remove specific notes and add clarifications on constructional requirements.
  • Supply cord specification
    • For tools with a rated capacity greater than 155 mm the amendment requires a minimum of heavy polychloroprene or PUR sheathed flexible cord (code 60245 IEC 66, H07RN‑F or H07BQ‑F) or equivalent; compliance checked by inspection and measurement.
  • Noise and vibration measurement
    • Annex I retitled (normative) and figures I.103 / I.104 replaced to update test set‑ups for wall chasers and cutting‑off steel scenarios.
  • Battery tools - isolation and disabling devices
    • Annexes K and L introduce normative requirements (K.21.18.Z301 / L.21.18.Z301) for integral‑battery tools to include either:
      • an isolation device that disconnects at least one battery pole, indicates state unambiguously and protects against accidental reconnection; or
      • a disabling device preventing unintentional starting (e.g., lock‑off requiring two dissimilar actions).
    • Safety instructions for abrasive cutting‑off operations updated to emphasise insulated gripping surfaces when hidden wiring may be contacted.
  • Normative and regulatory alignment
    • New Annex ZA lists normative cross‑references to related international/European standards; Annex ZZ maps clauses to essential requirements of Directive 2006/42/EC (Machinery Directive).

Practical applications - who uses this standard

  • Manufacturers and designers of hand‑held cut‑off machines and abrasive cutting equipment (for product design and technical files).
  • Safety and compliance engineers preparing conformity assessments and CE marking documentation.
  • Test laboratories performing noise, vibration and safety verification against updated test set‑ups.
  • Component suppliers (cords, switches, batteries) ensuring parts meet required specifications (e.g., H07RN‑F).
  • Procurement, inspection bodies and end users seeking compliance with the Machinery Directive and harmonised safety practice.

Related standards

  • EN 62841‑1:2015 (Part 1 - General requirements)
  • IEC 62841‑2‑22 (underlying IEC text)
  • ISO 19432‑1 (portable abrasive cutting machines - safety)
  • IEC 61008‑1 / EN 61008‑1, EN 1339 (referenced in Annex ZA)

given in Part 1 to account for the particular hazards and characteristics of these specific tools.
Part 2-22 is used in conjunction with EN 62841-1:2015 and all of its amendments and corrigenda (if any).
Part 2-22 supplements or modifies the corresponding clauses in EN 62841-1:2015 and its amendments, so as
to convert it into the European Standard: Particular requirements for hand-held cut-off machines.
Where a particular subclause of Part 1 is not mentioned in the Part 2-22, that subclause applies as far as
relevant. When this document states “addition”, “modification” or “replacement”, the relevant text in Part 1 is to
be adapted accordingly.
The following print types are used:
— requirements; in roman type;
— test specifications: in italic type;
— notes: in smaller roman type.
The terms defined in Clause 3 are printed in bold typeface.
Subclauses, notes, tables and figures which are additional to those in Part 1 are numbered starting from 101.
Clauses, subclauses, notes, tables, figures and annexes which are additional to those in IEC 62841-2-22:2025

This document follows the overall requirements of EN ISO 12100.
This document has been prepared under a standardization request addressed to CENELEC by the European
Commission. The Standing Committee of the EFTA States subsequently approves these requests for its
Member States.
For relationship with EU Legislation, see informative Annex ZZ, which is an integral part of this document.
Compliance with the clauses of Part 1 together with Part 2-22 provides one means of conforming with the
essential health and safety requirements of the Directive concerned.
