Overview
EN IEC 62841-2-22:2025/A11:2025 is a key European amendment standard issued by CLC (CENELEC) that addresses the safety requirements for electric motor-operated hand-held cut-off machines. This amendment provides updates and clarifications to the existing European Standard EN IEC 62841-2-22:2025, ensuring enhanced safety for a wide range of portable tools, transportable tools, and lawn and garden machinery. The standard is an essential part of the EN IEC 62841 series, aligning with EU machinery safety directives and industry best practices for electric tools used in cutting and construction applications.
Key Topics
Enhanced Marking and Instructions
Updates to labeling and instruction requirements ensure that users have access to clear and accurate safety information, improving proper tool operation and maintenance.Moisture Resistance Improvements
Revisions to moisture resistance clauses contribute to better durability and safety of hand-held cut-off machines in varying work environments.Construction Requirements
Additions clarify construction standards, particularly concerning battery-operated tools, and introduce requirements for devices that prevent unintentional operation during servicing or maintenance.Supply Cord Modifications
New specifications regarding flexible cords, particularly for tools with a rated capacity greater than 155 mm, require the use of robust cord types (such as heavy polychloroprene or PUR sheathed cords) to withstand demanding job site conditions.Noise and Vibration Emission Measurements
Updates to noise and vibration test methods provide more precise measurement criteria, supporting workplace health and safety initiatives.Battery Tool Safety
Expanded requirements for isolation and disabling devices in battery-powered tools help prevent accidental activation, aligning these products with the latest safety innovations.Legislative Alignment
The standard strengthens conformity with the essential health and safety requirements of EU Directive 2006/42/EC (Machinery Directive), ensuring tools certified under this amendment can be marketed across the EU with presumption of conformity.
Applications
EN IEC 62841-2-22:2025/A11:2025 is highly relevant across a variety of industries and professionals who use or specify hand-held cut-off machines, such as:
Construction and Civil Engineering
Ensures safe operation and higher reliability of electric cut-off machines for cutting concrete, metal, and masonry.Metal Fabrication and Workshop Environments
Covers both corded and cordless equipment used for precise and efficient material cutting while minimizing vibration and noise exposure risks.Maintenance and Repair Operations
Provides safety and durability guidelines for service professionals who rely on portable cut-off tools for routine tasks in challenging or damp environments.Manufacturers and Product Designers
Guides the development and certification of compliant tools, including requirements for instructions, marking, supply connection, and battery safety, enabling products to achieve CE marking.
