Measurement of the dimensions of a cylindrical component with axial terminations

IEC 60294:2012 applies to cylindrical capacitors and resistors for use in electronic equipment. This standard gives methods for measurement of the body length and for checking the excessive protective coating extending onto the wire terminations of components with axial wire terminations. It further provides a method for checking the overall body diameter of cylindrical components with axial wire terminations. NOTE: A measuring method for components with unidirectional terminations is given in IEC 60717. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition, published in 1969, and constitutes a technical revision. The main technical changes with respect to the first edition are the following: - employment of SI units only, causing deletion of all imperial dimensions, - reduction of the tolerance on the chamfer depth in Figure 1 and Figure 2, - elaboration of the method for coating material extending onto wire terminations, - elaboration of the method for the overall body diameter, and - introduction of requirements on information to be given in a relevant specification.

La CEI 60294:2012 s'applique aux condensateurs et résistances cylindriques destinés à être utilisés dans les matériels électroniques. Cette norme donne des méthodes pour la mesure de la longueur du corps et pour la vérification de l'excédent de revêtement de protection sur les fils de sorties des composants à fils de sorties axiales. Elle donne également une méthode pour la vérification du diamètre hors-tout du corps des composants cylindriques à fils de sorties axiales. NOTE: Une méthode de mesure pour les composants à sorties unilatérales est donnée dans la CEI 60717. Cette deuxième édition annule et remplace la première édition parue en 1969. Elle constitue une révision technique. Les principales modifications techniques par rapport à la première édition sont les suivantes: - utilisation d'unités SI uniquement, entraînant la suppression de toutes les dimensions impériales, - réduction de la tolérance pour la profondeur du chanfrein à la Figure 1 et à la Figure 2, - élaboration de la méthode relative à l'extension du matériau de revêtement sur les fils de sorties, - élaboration de la méthode relative au diamètre hors-tout du corps, et - introduction des exigences relatives aux informations à fournir dans une spécification applicable.

Določa tudi metodo za preverjanje splošnega premera cilindričnih komponent z osnimi žičnimi priključki. OPOMBA Metoda za merjenje komponent z enostranskimi priključki je določena v standardu IEC 60717.

1 Scope
This International Standard applies to cylindrical capacitors and resistors for use in electronic
equipment.
This standard gives methods for measurement of the body length and for checking the
excessive protective coating extending onto the wire terminations of components with axial
wire terminations. It further provides a method for checking the overall body diameter of
cylindrical components with axial wire terminations.
NOTE A measuring method for components with unidirectional terminations is given in IEC 60717.

3 Body length
3.1 General
The length of the body shall be measured by inserting the wire terminations into slots or bores
of a pair of gauge plates and by moving these plates parallel to each other until the
component body is clamped without deforming the body or the wire terminations.
The plates shall be considered sufficiently close to paraIlel if, allowing for the size of plate
and the distance between the component and the measuring device, the error in measurement
due to this cause does not exceed 0,05 mm.
Components with axial wire terminations shall be measured using the standard gauge plates
