This CENELEC amendment aligns the European version with IEC 60335-2-4:2008/A1:2012 (modified) and supplements EN 60335-1:2012.   • Measurement of maximum peripheral speed and calculation of rotational kinetic energy form part of compliance verification (performed after spillage tests).

• Electronic controls and fault conditions

  • If compliance depends on electronic circuits, tests must be repeated under fault conditions (19.11.2 a–g) and under specified electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) test conditions.
  • Interlock behavior: controlled lids/doors may have one interlock released under strict conditions (no automatic opening; appliance must not restart after that cycle).

• Software evaluation (Annex R - normative)

  • Programmable electronic circuits must include software measures to control fault/error conditions (referenced in Table R.1).
  • Requirements include fault detection before safety is impaired, proper initialization and termination of software and safety‑related hardware.

This amendment A1 modifies the European Standard EN 60335-2-4:2010; it was approved by CENELEC on 2013-08-12. CENELEC

The text of document 61/4447/FDIS, future IEC 60335-2-4:2008/A1, prepared by IEC/TC 61 "Safety of
household and similar electrical appliances" was submitted to the IEC-CENELEC parallel vote and
approved by CENELEC as EN 60335-2-4:2010/A1:2015.
A draft amendment, which covers common modifications to IEC 60335-2-4:2008/A1 (61/4447/FDIS),
was prepared by CLC/TC 61,"Safety of household and similar electrical appliances" and approved by
CENELEC.
The following dates are fixed:
