11 AMENDMENT 2
13 FOREWORD
14 1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
15 all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote
16 international co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To
17 this end and in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications,
18 Technical Reports, Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as "IEC
19 Publication(s)"). Their preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested
20 in the subject dealt with may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non -
21 governmental organizations liaising with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely
22 with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by
23 agreement between the two organizations.
24 2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international
25 consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all
26 interested IEC National Committees.
27 3) IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for international use and are accepted by IEC National
28 Committees in that sense. While all reasonable efforts are made to ensure that the technical content of IEC
29 Publications is accurate, IEC cannot be held responsible for the way in which they are used or for any
30 misinterpretation by any end user.
31 4) In order to promote international uniformity, IEC National Committees undertake to apply IEC Publications
32 transparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional publications. Any divergence
33 between any IEC Publication and the corresponding national or regional publication shall be clearly indicated in
34 the latter.
35 5) IEC itself does not provide any attestation of conformity. Independent certification bodies provide conformity
36 assessment services and, in some areas, access to IEC marks of conformity. IEC is not responsible for any
37 services carried out by independent certification bodies.
38 6) All users should ensure that they have the latest edition of this publication.
39 7) No liability shall attach to IEC or its directors, employees, servants or agents including individual experts and
40 members of its technical committees and IEC National Committees for any personal injury, property damage or
41 other damage of any nature whatsoever, whether direct or indirect, or for costs (including legal fees) and
42 expenses arising out of the publication, use of, or reliance upon, this IEC Publication or any other IEC
43 Publications.
44 8) Attention is drawn to the Normative references cited in this publication. Use of the referenced publications is
45 indispensable for the correct application of this publication.
46 9) Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent
47 rights. IEC shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
48 Amendment 2 to IEC 62841-4-2:2017 has been prepared by IEC technical committee 116:
49 Safety of motor-operated electric tools.
50 The text of this Amendment is based on the following documents:
Draft Report on voting
116/XX/FDIS 116/XX/RVD
52 Full information on the voting for its approval can be found in the report on voting indicated in
53 the above table.
IEC CDV 62841-4-2/AMD2 © IEC 2025
54 The language used for the development of this Amendment is English.
55 This document was drafted in accordance with ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2, and developed in
56 accordance with ISO/IEC Directives, Part 1 and ISO/IEC Directives, IEC Supplement,
57 available at www.iec.ch/members_experts/refdocs. The main document types developed by
58 IEC are described in greater detail at www.iec.ch/standardsdev/publications/.
59 The committee has decided that the contents of this document will remain unchanged until the
60 stability date indicated on the IEC website under webstore.iec.ch in the data related to the
61 specific document. At this date, the document will be
62 • reconfirmed,
63 • withdrawn,
64 • replaced by a revised edition, or
65 • amended.
66 NOTE The attention of National Committees is drawn to the fact that equipment manufacturers and testing
67 organizations may need a transitional period following publication of a new, amended or revised IEC publication in
68 which to make products in accordance with the new requirements and to equip themselves for conducting new or
69 revised tests.
70 It is the recommendation of the committee that the content of this publication be adopted for implementation
71 nationally not earlier than 36 months from the date of publication.

141 Handles shall be suitably shaped to be grasped securely and have a perimeter P between
142 63 mm and 170 mm as illustrated in Figure 105 a), 105 b) or 105 c). The perimeter is
143 determined by a chain measurement with the blade control, if any, fully depressed. The
144 gripping length of the handle(s) shall be at least 100 mm.
145 Replace the existing text of the first paragraph of 19.101.2.1 with the following new text:
146 Extended-reach hedge trimmers shall be provided with two handles.

163 Replace the existing text of 19.102.2 with the following new text:
164 19.102.2 The front handle shall be located so that the shortest chain distance measured
165 from the nearest cutting edge of the cutter blade to the furthest side of any handle is not less
166 than 120 mm as shown in Figure 108 a), Figure 108 b) and Figure 108 c).
167 If a handle is an integral part of the shaft of an extended-reach hedge trimmer, the shortest
168 chain distance from the end of the handle closest to the cutting device to the nearest cutting
169 edge shall be at least 120 mm measured from
170 – the end of the insulated handle nearest the cutter blade; or

176 requirement.
177 For machines where the cutting device or handle(s) can be rotated or articulated, the
178 distances are measured with the cutting device and handle adjusted in the most
179 unfavourable operating position(s) identified in 8.14.2 b) 108) and 8.14.2 b) 110).
180 Compliance is determined by measurement.
