IEC 60034-9:2021 specifies test methods for the determination of sound power level of rotating electrical machines and specifies maximum A-weighted sound power levels for factory acceptance testing of network-supplied, rotating electrical machines in accordance with lEC 60034-1, having methods of cooling according to lEC 60034-6 and degrees of protection according to lEC 60034-5, and having the following characteristics: - standard design, either AC or DC, without additional special electrical, mechanical, or acoustical modifications intended to reduce the sound power level - rated output from 1 kW (or kVA) up to and including 5 500 kW (or kVA) - rated speed not greater than 3 750 min–1 This fifth edition cancels and replaces the fourth edition, published in 2003 and its amendment 1, published in 2007. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition: a) In Table 2 and Table 3 cooling methods IC01, IC11, IC21 and IC31, IC71, IC81 are now covered. b) This edition adds Table 3 for 60 Hz machines, whereas Table 2, which covers only 50 Hz machines, has no change in levels. c) In Table 3, grade A is added to harmonize the highest levels seen in IEC and NEMA, whereas grade B was added to harmonize the lowest, more restrictive levels seen in IEC and NEMA. d) The clause “Determination of noise increments caused by converter supply” has been shifted to Annex B and renamed “Information on typical noise increments caused by converter supply”.

IEC 60034-12:2024 is available as IEC 60034-12:2024 RLV which contains the International Standard and its Redline version, showing all changes of the technical content compared to the previous edition.IEC 60034-12:2024 specifies the parameters for eight designs of starting performance of single-speed three-phase 50 Hz or 60 Hz cage induction motors in accordance with IEC 60034‑1 that: - have a rated voltage up to 1 000 V; - are intended for direct-on-line or star-delta starting; - are rated on the basis of duty type S1; - are constructed to any degree of protection as defined in IEC 60034-5 and explosion protection. This document also applies to dual voltage motors provided that the flux saturation level is the same for both voltages. This fourth edition cancels and replaces the third edition published in 2016. Aligned with the requirements for explosion protected motors from TC31 WG27 - new clause on methods for measuring locked-rotor current and torque; - new informative annex on the general current and torque characteristics with locked rotor; - new informative annex on correction of voltage and frequency; - aligned with the requirements for explosion protected motors from TC31 WG27.

Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 2-39: Particular requirements for commercial electric multi-purpose cooking pans

IEC 60335-2-39:2012 deals with the safety of electrically operated commercial multi-purpose cooking pans not intended for household and similar use, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single-phase appliances connected between one phase and neutral and 480 V for other appliances. This standard also deals with pressurized appliances and appliances with pressurized parts. These appliances are used for processing food for commercial consumption, for example in kitchens of restaurants, canteens, hospitals and in commercial enterprises such as bakeries, butcheries, etc. The electrical part of appliances making use of other forms of energy is also within the scope of this standard. As far as is practicable, this standard deals with the common hazards presented by these types of appliances. Attention is drawn to the fact that for appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft, additional requirements may be necessary. The principal changes in this edition as compared with the fifth edition of IEC 60335-2-39 are as follows (minor changes are not listed): - addition to definition of portable appliances, atmospheric multi-purpose cooking and rated pressure; - deletion of equipotential symbol 5021 of IEC 60417 covered by Part 1; - addition of instructions for multi-purpose cooking pans; - modification on leakage current permissible for portable class l appliances; - addition to abnormal test requirements; - addition to mechanical hazard test for multi-purpose cooking pans; - addition of construction test for multi-purpose cooking pans; - addition to construction requirements for lids and theirs grips; - addition to construction requirements for positioning of pressure reliefs; - addition to construction's fixed appliances which are moved forward and backward for cleaning purposes.
The attention of National Committees is drawn to the fact that equipment manufacturers and testing organizations may need a transitional period following publication of a new, amended or revised IEC publication in which to make products in accordance with the new requirements and to equip themselves for conducting new or revised tests. It is the recommendation of the committee that the content of this publication be adopted for implementation nationally not earlier than 12 months or later than 36 months from the date of publication. The main changes with respect to the previous edition are: - the additional specification of winding temperature limits for temperature class 200 (N), - the increased limits of maximum winding temperatures for overloads with rapid variation, - the clarification that the motor winding may be permanently damaged after it has been exposed to temperatures - a clarification of the definition of indirect thermal protection, - a clarification on the test methods for larger motors.

Such furnaces and the electrical equipment can be part by way of example of the following plant: a) water heating systems; b) steam boiler installations (steam and hot-water boilers) and heat recovery steam boilers; NOTE 1 The requirements of this document apply according to the electrical equipment of electrically heated steam boilers. NOTE 2 Seagoing vessels and offshore facilities are governed by International Maritime Law and as such are not within the scope of this document. These requirements can be used for such facilities. c) warm air heaters; d) hot-gas heaters; e) heat exchanger systems; f) combustion chambers of stationary turbines; g) as long as no other standard is applicable for combined heat and power stations, we recommend the use of the requirements of this document; This document can also be used as reference for electrical equipment requirements for thermo-processing equipment. The requirements in this document are not applicable to electrical equipment for: 1) non-electrically heated appliances and burner control systems for household and similar purposes; 2) furnaces using technologies for the direct conversion of heat into electrical energy; 3) combustion chambers of non-stationary prime movers and turbines; 4) central oil supply systems for individual heating appliances; 5) furnaces using solid fuels for heating purposes for household use with a nominal thermal output up to 1 MW; 6) furnaces which are used to heat process fluids and gasses in chemical plant. This document can be used as a basis for the requirements placed on electrical equipment for furnaces, which are excluded from its field of application. This document specifies special requirements for the management of functional safety.
