Electrical installations of buildings - Part 5-51: Selection and erection of electrical equipment - Common rules

Deals with the selection of equipment and its erection. It provides common rules for compliance with measures of protection for safety, requirements for proper functioning for intended use of the installation, and requirements appropriate to the external influences foreseen. The main changes with respect to the previous edition are listed below: - corrections of misprints in Table 51 based on Table 321 derived from the old Part 3; - introduction of a new Clause 516 dealing with measures for mitigation of protective conductor currents; - introduction of an informative Annex B extracted from IEC 61140 in Annex E of this standard. Annex B of IEC 61140 deals with protective conductor currents.

Traite du choix du matériel et de sa mise en oeuvre. Il doit permettre de satisfaire aux mesures de protection pour assurer la sécurité, aux exigences pour assurer un fonctionnement satisfaisant de l'installation pour l'utilisation prévue, et aux exigences appropriées aux conditions d'influences externes prévisibles. Les modifications principales par rapport à l'édition précédente sont les suivantes: - corrections des erreurs du Tableau 51 basé sur le Tableau 321, extrait de l'ancienne Partie 3; - introduction d'un nouvel Article 516 traitant des dispositions d'atténuation des courants dans les dispositifs de protection; - introduction de l'Annexe informative B extraite de la CEI 61140 dans l'Annexe E de cette norme. L'Annexe B de la CEI 61140 traite des courants dans les conducteurs de protection.

Foreword
The text of the International Standard IEC 60364-5-51:2005, prepared by IEC TC 64, Electrical installations
and protection against electric shock, together with common modifications prepared by SC 64B, Protection
against thermal effects, of Technical Committee CENELEC TC 64, Electrical installations and protection
against electric shock, was submitted to the formal vote and was approved by CENELEC as HD 60364-5-51
on 2009-04-01.
This Harmonization Document supersedes HD 60364-5-51:2006.
The main changes with respect to HD 60364-5-51:2006 are listed below:
– corrections of misprints in Table 51 based on Table 321 derived from the old Part 3;
– introduction of a new Clause 516 dealing with measures for mitigation of protective conductor currents.
In this document the common modifications to the International Standard are indicated by a vertical line in
the left margin of the text.
The following dates were fixed:
– latest date by which the existence of the HD (doa) 2009-10-01
has to be announced at national level
– latest date by which the HD has to be implemented (dop) 2010-04-01
at national level by publication of a harmonized
national standard or by endorsement
– latest date by which the national standards conflicting (dow) 2012-04-01
with the HD have to be withdrawn
Annexes ZA, ZB, ZC, ZD and ZE have been added by CENELEC.
Clauses, subclauses, notes, tables and figures which are additional to those in IEC 60364-5-51:2005 are
prefixed “Z”.

Vorwort
Der Text der Internationalen Norm IEC 60364-5-51:2005, der vom IEC TC 64 "Electrical installations and
protection against electric shock" ausgearbeitet wurde, wurde von CENELEC zusammen mit von SC 64B "
Schutz gegen thermische Einflüsse" des Technischen Komitees CENELEC TC 64 " Elektrische Anlagen und
Schutz gegen elektrischen Schlag" ausgearbeiteten gemeinsamen Abänderungen der formellen Abstimmung
unterworfen und von CENELEC am 2009-04-01 als HD 60364-5-51 angenommen.
Dieses Harmonsierungsdokument ersetzt HD 60364-5-51:2006.
Die wesentlichen Änderungen im Vergleich zu HD 60364-5-51:2006 sind nachfolgend aufgelistet:
– Korrektur von Druckfehlern in Tabelle 51, basierend auf Tabelle 321, hergeleitet vom alten Teil 3;
– Hinzufügung eines neuen Abschnitts 516 bezüglich Maßnahmen zur Reduzierung von Schutzleiterströmen.
In diesem Dokument sind die gemeinsamen Abänderungen zu der Internationalen Norm durch eine senkrechte
Linie am linken Seitenrand des Textes gekennzeichnet.
Nachstehende Daten wurden festgelegt:
– spätestes Datum, zu dem das Vorhandensein des HD
auf nationaler Ebene angekündigt werden muss (doa) 2009-10-01
– spätestes Datum, zu dem das HD auf nationaler Ebene
durch Veröffentlichung einer harmonisierten nationalen Norm
oder durch Anerkennung übernommen werden muss (dop) 2010-04-01
– spätestes Datum, zu dem nationale Normen, die dem HD
entgegenstehen, zurückgezogen werden müssen (dow) 2012-04-01
Die Anhänge ZA, ZB, ZC, ZD und ZE wurden von CENELEC hinzugefügt.
Abschnitte, Unterabschnitte, Anmerkungen, Tabellen und Bilder, die zusätzlich zu denen, die in
IEC 60364-5-51:2005 aufgeführt sind, aufgenommen wurden, sind mit einem vorangestellten “Z“ versehen.

Avant-propos
Le texte de la Norme internationale CEI 60364-5-51:2005, préparé par le CE 64 de la CEI, Installations
électriques et protection contre les chocs électriques, avec les modifications communes préparées par le
SC 64B, Installations électriques et protection contre les chocs électriques – Protection contre les effets
thermiques, du comité technique CENELEC TC 64, Installations électriques et protection contre les chocs
électriques, a été soumis au vote formel et a été accepté par le CENELEC comme HD 60364-5-51 le
2009-04-01.
Le présent Document d'Harmonisation remplace le HD 60364-5-51:2006.
Les modifications principales par rapport au HD 60364-5-51:2006 sont les suivantes:
– corrections des erreurs du Tableau 51 basé sur le Tableau 321, extrait de l’ancienne Partie 3;
– introduction d’un nouvel Article 516 traitant des dispositions d’atténuation des courants dans les
