Coaxial cables - Part 1: Generic specification
This European Standard covers coaxial cables for use in analogue and digital systems. This standard should be used in conjunction with EN 50290 1 1. Coaxial cables covered by this standard operate in transverse electromagnetic mode (TEM) and are suitable for use in a wide range of digital and analogue applications including CATV, radio frequency systems, instrumentation, broadcasting, telecommunications and data network systems. Various constructions and materials provide for indoor and outdoor applications, including underground and overhead installations, and other environmental protection characteristics. Generally, cables are designed for use in 50 Ohm and 75 Ohm characteristic impedance systems, although other types (e.g. 93/95 Ohm) are also covered. Coaxial cables defined by this standard may be incorporated into hybrid cable constructions with optical fibre or multi-element cable components. All cables covered by this standard may be subjected to voltages greater than 50 V a.c. or 75 V d.c. However, these cables are not intended for direct connection to the mains electricity supply or other low impedance sources.

Diese Europäische Norm gilt für Koaxialkabel welche in analogen und digitalen Systemen eingesetzt werden. Diese Norm ist in Verbindung mit EN 50290-1-1 anzuwenden. Koaxialkabel, welche in dieser Norm beschrieben sind, arbeiten im Bereich der "Transversal-Elektromagnetischen Wellen" (TEM). Sie sind für die Anwendung in einem weiten Bereich von analogen und digitalen Systemen geeignet. Hierzu gehören Breitbandnetze (CATV), Hochfrequenzsysteme, allgemeine Signalverarbeitung, Rundfunk- und Fernsehübertragung, sowie Netzwerke für Telekommunikation und für Datenübertragung. Für Innen- und Aussenkabel, für Kabel für Erdverlegung sowie für Kabel mit Trageseil und Kabel mit weiteren Schutzmechanismen gegenüber Einflüssen aus der Umgebung stehen unterschiedliche Konstruktionen und Materialien zur Verfügung. Allgemein sind die Kabel dieser Norm für Anwendungen in Systemen mit 50-Ohm- und 75-Ohm Wellenwiderstand ausgelegt; allerdings werden auch Kabel anderer Systeme, (z.B. 93/95 Ohm) von dieser Norm abgedeckt. Koaxiale Kabel, welche in dieser Norm beschrieben werden, können Bestandteil hybrider Kabelkonstruktionen mit optischen Fasern oder mit Mehrfachelementen sein. Alle Kabel, welche in dieser Norm beschrieben werden, können mit Spannungen grösser als 50 Volt Wechselspannung oder grösser als 75 V Gleichspannung betrieben werden. Allerdings sind diese Kabel nicht geeignet zum direkten Anschluss an das Netz der öffentlichen Energieversorgung oder an andere Quellen mit niedriger Impedanz.

La présente Norme européenne s’applique aux câbles coaxiaux destinés à être utilisés dans des réseaux analogiques et numériques. Il convient d’utiliser la présente norme avec la EN 50290 1 1. Les câbles coaxiaux couverts par la présente norme fonctionnent en mode transversal électromagnétique (TEM) et sont adaptés à un large éventail d’applications numériques et analogiques y compris la CATV, les antennes collectives, les systèmes RF, l’instrumentation, la radiodiffusion et les réseaux de données et de télécommunications. Les différentes constructions et les différents matériaux qui existent permettent des applications intérieures et extérieures, y compris des installations en souterrain et en aérien et d’autres caractéristiques de protection environnementales. Généralement, ces câbles sont conçus pour être utilisés dans des réseaux ayant une impédance caractéristique de 50 Ohm et 75 Ohm, bien que d’autres types (par ex. 93/95 Ohm) soient également couverts. Les câbles coaxiaux définis par la présente norme peuvent être incorporés à des constructions de câbles hybrides avec des fibres optiques ou des composants à câbles multiconducteurs. Tous les câbles couverts par la présente norme peuvent être soumis à des tensions supérieures à 50 V en c.a. ou 75 V en c.c. Cependant, ces câbles ne sont pas destinés à être directement raccordés au réseau électrique d’alimentation ou à d’autres sources de faible impédance.
