International Electrotechnical Vocabulary (IEV) - Part 447: Measuring relays and protection equipment

IEC 60050-447:2020 gives the general terminology used in measuring relays and protection equipment, as well as general terms pertaining to specific applications and associated technologies. This new edition reviews and complements the previous one. It has the status of a horizontal standard in accordance with IEC Guide 108:2006. This terminology is consistent with the terminology developed in the other specialized parts of the IEV.

Cette nouvelle édition révise et complète la précédente. Elle a le statut de norme horizontale conformément au Guide IEC 108:2006. Cette terminologie est en accord avec la terminologie figurant dans les autres parties spécialisées de l'IEV.

FOREWORD
1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote
international co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To
this end and in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications,
Technical Reports, Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as "IEC
Publication(s)"). Their preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested
in the subject dealt with may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-
governmental organizations liaising with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely
with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by
agreement between the two organizations.
2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international
consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all
interested IEC National Committees.
3) IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for international use and are accepted by IEC National

International Standard IEC 60050-447 has been prepared by IEC technical committee 95:
Measuring relays and protection equipment, under the responsibility of IEC technical
committee 1: Terminology.
This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2010. It constitutes a
technical revision. It has the status of a horizontal standard in accordance with IEC Guide
108.
This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous
edition:
a) clarification of some existing definitions;
b) addition of some definitions to meet the requirements of IEC 60255-1xx functional
standards, in particular, functional standards dealing with distance protection, differential
protection and frequency protection.
