Clothes washing machines for commercial use - Methods for measuring the performance

IEC PAS 63125:2017(E) specifies methods for measuring the performance of clothes washing machines for commercial use utilizing cold and/or hot water supplies and without heating or with heating devices for electricity, steam or gas. It also deals with appliances for both washing and drying textiles (washer-dryers) with respect to their washing-related functions. This PAS covers top, front and side-loaded non-household washing machines with horizontal or vertical axes and with one or more wash compartments.
The object is to state and define the principal performance characteristics of non-household washing machines and to describe the test methods for measuring these characteristics.
Non household tumble dryer performance is assessed to CLC/TS 50594.
This PAS does not apply to continuous batch washing machines (e.g. tunnel washers) or washing machines only possible to operate with automatic loading and unloading.
This PAS does not specify safety requirements for non-household washing machines. Safety requirements are specified in EN 50571 and the EN ISO 10472 series.

IEC 60456:2010 specifies methods for measuring the performance of clothes washing machines for household use, with or without heating devices utilising cold and/or hot water supply. It also deals with appliances for water extraction by centrifugal force (spin extractors) and is applicable to appliances for both washing and drying textiles (washer-dryers) with respect to their washing related functions. Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 2-7: Particular requirements for washing machines

IEC 60335-2-7:2019 is available as IEC 60335-2-7:2019 RLV which contains the International Standard and its Redline version, showing all changes of the technical content compared to the previous edition.IEC 60335-2-7:2019 deals with the safety of electric washing machines for household and similar use, that are intended for washing clothes and textiles, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single-phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances. This standard also deals with the safety of electric washing machines for household and similar use employing an electrolyte instead of detergent. Additional requirements for these appliances are given in Annex CC. Guidance is given in Annex DD for requirements that can be used to ensure an acceptable level of protection against electrical and thermal hazards for washing machines fitted with a power driven wringer. Appliances not intended for normal household use but which nevertheless may be a source of danger to the public, such as appliances intended to be used by laymen in shops, in light industry and on farms, are within the scope of this standard.
Examples of such appliances are washing machines for communal use in blocks of flats or in launderettes. As far as is practicable, this standard deals with the common hazards presented by washing machines that are encountered by all persons in and around the home. However, in general, it does not take into account:
– persons (including children) whose physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge prevents them from using the appliance safely without supervision or instruction;
– children playing with the appliance.
Attention is drawn to the fact that:
– for washing machines intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft, additional requirements may be necessary;
– in many countries additional requirements are specified by the national health authorities, the national authorities responsible for the protection of labour, the national water supply authorities and similar authorities.
This standard does not apply to:
– washing machines intended exclusively for industrial purposes (ISO 10472-2);
– appliances intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas);
– washing machines incorporating steam generating devices in which steam is produced at a pressure exceeding 50 kPa.
This eighth edition cancels and replaces the seventh edition published in 2008, Amendment 1: 2011 and Amendment 2:2016. This edition constitutes a technical revision.
This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
– requirements for steam generators in 3.1.9, 3.6.101, 19.101, 22.106, 22.107;
– additional definitions for washing machine types in 3.5.101,3.5.102, 3.5.103;
– revised temperature limits for external accessible surfaces in 11.3 and 11.8;
– revised test procedure for the spillage test in 15.2;

Appliances not intended for normal household use but which nevertheless may be a source of danger to the public, such as appliances intended to be used by laymen in shops, in light industry and on farms are within the scope of this standard. – aligns the text with IEC 60335-1, Ed 5, and its Amendments 1 and 2;
– some notes have been converted to normative text (7.12, 7.12.1, 11.3, 19.101, AA.5.2);
– more detailed test specifications have been given in 11.3 and 15.2;
– specific requirements have been added in 3.1.9, 3.6.101, 7.12, 11.7, 19.1, and Clause 22 to cover appliances with steam generators;
– specific requirements have been added in 22.108 to cover programmable electronic circuits;
– Annex AA has been deleted, because it is covered by Part 1 and the remaining annexes have been renumbered.

Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 2-43: Particular clothes dryers and towel rails

IEC 60335-2-43:2017 deals with the safety of electric clothes dryers for drying textiles on racks located in a warm airflow, clothes dryers intended for drying footwear or gloves and to electric towel rails, for household and similar purposes, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V.
The clothes racks can be fixed or free-standing in a cabinet. The air circulation can be natural or forced.
Appliances not intended for normal household use but that nevertheless may be a source of danger to the public, such as appliances intended to be used by laymen in shops, in light industry and on farms, are within the scope of this standard.
As far as is practicable, this standard deals with the common hazards presented by appliances that are encountered by all persons in and around the home. However, in general, it does not take into account persons (including children) whose physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge prevents them from using the appliance safely without supervision or instruction or children playing with the appliance.
Attention is drawn to the fact that for appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft, additional requirements may be necessary.
This standard does not apply to spin extractors (IEC 60335-2-4):
- tumble dryers (IEC 60335-2-11);
- appliances intended exclusively for industrial purposes or appliances intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas).
This fourth edition cancels and replaces the third edition published in 2002 including its Amendment 1 (2005) and its Amendment 2 (2008). This edition constitutes a technical revision.
This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition: requirements for clothes dryers intended for drying footwear or gloves have been introduced (1, 3.1.9, 6.2, 11.8, 19.1, 19.13, 19.101, 19.102, 22.40, 23.3).
This part 2 is to be used in conjunction with the latest edition of IEC 60335-1 and its amendments. It was established on the basis of the fifth edition (2010) of that standard.
The attention of National Committees is drawn to the fact that equipment manufacturers and testing organizations may need a transitional period following publication of a new, amended or revised IEC publication in which to make products in accordance with the new requirements and to equip themselves for conducting new or revised tests.
It is the recommendation of the committee that the content of this publication be adopted for implementation nationally not earlier than 12 months or later than 36 months from the date of its publication.
