Overview
ISO 6362-3:2022 - "Wrought aluminium and aluminium alloys - Extruded rods/bars, tubes and profiles - Part 3" - specifies tolerances on form and dimensions for extruded rectangular bars. It applies to extruded rectangular aluminium and aluminium-alloy bars with thicknesses from 2 mm to 240 mm and widths from 10 mm to 600 mm. This fourth edition (2022) updates alloy groupings and corrects editorial errors from the 2012 edition.
Key topics and technical requirements
The standard defines measurable dimensional and shape requirements for quality control and acceptance:
Dimensional tolerances (width & thickness)
- Separate tolerance tables for Alloy Group I and Alloy Group II covering combinations of width (b) and thickness (t).
- Tolerances vary with size; for example, narrow bars (10–18 mm width) have tighter limits than wide sections.
Corner radii
- Maximum corner radii specified by thickness ranges (e.g., Group I: 0.6 mm max for t ≤ 10 mm; Group II: up to 5.0 mm for t ≤ 240 mm).
Fixed-length tolerances and squareness of cut ends
- Permissible fixed-length tolerances given for lengths L ≤ 2 000 mm, up to 8 000 mm, with squareness of cut ends required to be within half the fixed-length tolerance.
Form tolerances (measurements are made with bar supported on a horizontal base plate)
- Flatness (convexity/concavity) - allowable deviation e by width ranges.
- Straightness - limits per 1 000 mm and in any 300 mm section.
- Twist - allowable twist per 1 000 mm and per total length segments.
- Squareness (cross-section) - maximum deviation Z relative to thickness.
Materials and alloy grouping
- Alloys are listed (see ISO 6362-7) and divided into Group I and Group II to reflect manufacturing difficulty; some specific alloys were added in the 2022 update.
Temper exceptions
- Shape tolerances do not apply to tempers O, H111, H112 and TX510 type tempers.
Applications and users
ISO 6362-3:2022 is used by:
- Extrusion manufacturers for production tolerance control and process setup.
- Quality inspectors and testing labs to verify compliance with dimensional/form tolerances.
- Procurement and purchasing to specify acceptance criteria in contracts.
- Design and fabrication engineers who require toleranced sections for assemblies and machining allowances.
- Standards compliance teams for regulatory and contractual conformity.

Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards
bodies (ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out
through ISO technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical
committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International
organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work.
ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of
electrotechnical standardization.
The procedures used to develop this document and those intended for its further maintenance are
described in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 1. In particular, the different approval criteria needed for the
different types of ISO documents should be noted. This document was drafted in accordance with the
editorial rules of the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2 (see www.iso.org/directives).
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of
patent rights. ISO shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights. Details of
any patent rights identified during the development of the document will be in the Introduction and/or
on the ISO list of patent declarations received (see www.iso.org/patents).

This document was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 79, Light metals and their alloys,
Subcommittee SC 6, Wrought aluminium and aluminium alloys.
This fourth edition cancels and replaces the third edition (ISO 6362-3:2012), which has been technically
revised. The main changes are as follows:
— in Clause 4, Table 1 has been separated into Table 1 and Table 2 by alloy group;
— in Clause 4, alloys 3203 and 6026 have been added to Table 1 and alloy 2033 has been added to
Table 2;
— errors have been corrected and expressions modified throughout.
A list of all parts in the ISO 6362 series can be found on the ISO website.
