Prosthetics and orthotics — Vocabulary — Part 3: Pathological gait (excluding prosthetic gait)

ISO 29783-3:2016 specifies a method of describing abnormal gait patterns resulting from pathology (excluding prosthetic gait) by identifying the deviations from the normal pattern of gait during each sub-phase of the gait cycle. The description of the deviations includes references to abnormal foot contact and abnormalities of joint motion.

Introduction
No internationally accepted vocabulary of terms is available to describe pathological gait.
As a consequence, the members of the different professions and the clinic teams in different countries
have developed and adopted their own terminology.
It will enable practitioners to systematically describe the gait of the persons for whom they are
providing treatment and facilitate comparisons with the experience of other practitioners.
The following definitions apply in understanding how to implement an ISO International Standard and
other normative ISO deliverables (TS, PAS, IWA):
— “shall” indicates a requirement;
— “should” indicates a recommendation;
— “may” is used to indicate that something is permitted;
— “can” is used to indicate that something is possible, for example, that an organization or individual
is able to do something.

Introduction
Il n’existe aucune terminologie reconnue au niveau international pour décrire la marche pathologique.
Par conséquent, les membres des différentes professions et des équipes cliniques de plusieurs pays ont
développé et adopté leur propre terminologie.
Cela permettra aux praticiens de décrire systématiquement la marche de personnes pour lesquelles ils
mettent en place un traitement et de faciliter les comparaisons avec les expériences d’autres praticiens.
Les définitions suivantes permettent de comprendre la manière dont les normes internationales ISO et
les autres documents normatifs ISO (Spécification technique, Spécification publiquement disponible ou
accord international d’atelier) doivent être appliqués:
— le verbe « devoir » indique une exigence
— l’expression « il convient de » indique une recommandation
— en anglais, l’auxiliaire « may » (« pouvoir » en français) est utilisé pour indiquer que quelque chose
est autorisé
— l’auxiliaire « can » (également « pouvoir » en français) est employé pour indiquer que quelque chose
est possible, par exemple, qu’une organisation ou un individu est susceptible de faire quelque chose.
Dans le paragraphe 3.3.1 de la Partie 2 des Directives ISO/IEC (sixième édition, 2011), une exigence est
définie comme étant une « expression dans le contenu d’un document formulant les critères à respecter
