Protective clothing — Mechanical properties — Determination of resistance to cutting by sharp objects

This document specifies a tomodynamometer cut test method and related calculations, for use on materials and assemblies designed for protective clothing, including gloves. The test determines resistance to cutting by sharp edges, such as knives, sheet metal parts, swarf, glass, bladed tools and castings. When this document is cited as a test method in a material or product requirement standard, that standard contains the necessary information to permit the application of this document to the particular product. This test does not provide data on the resistance to penetration by pointed objects such as needles and thorns, or the point of sharp-edged blades. The test described in this document is not considered suitable for testing materials made from chain mail and metal plates. The text of this document does not include provisions for the safeguard of the operator.

Le présent document spécifie une méthode d’essai de coupure à l’aide d’un tomodynamomètre et les calculs associés, à effectuer sur des matériaux et assemblages destinés aux vêtements de protection, y compris aux gants. Cet essai détermine la résistance à la coupure par les objets à bords tranchants, tels que les couteaux, les parties métalliques des tôles, les ébarbures, le verre, les outils à lame et les articles en fonte. Lorsque le présent document est cité comme méthode d’essai dans une norme d’exigences pour un produit ou un matériau, la norme en question contient les informations nécessaires permettant d’appliquer les dispositions du présent document au produit concerné. Le présent essai ne donne pas d’informations sur la résistance à la pénétration par des objets pointus, du type aiguilles, pointes et lames à bords tranchants. L’essai décrit dans le présent document n’est pas considéré comme adapté aux essais de matériaux réalisés en cotte de mailles ou en pièces de métal. Le présent document ne prévoit pas de dispositions traitant de la sécurité de l’opérateur.
