Foreword

The standard ISO 11375:1998 -"Building construction machinery and equipment - Vocabulary" is one-part document,

comprising six groups of building machines, composing the primary scope of ISO/TC 195.

In relation to broadening of TC 195's scope by road construction and maintenance machines, arouse the necessity to extend

ISO 11375:1998 by this kind of machinery. This extension of ISO 11375:1998 is linked with a future reviewing of this standard,

which will include its division into parts (sheets), corresponding to the particular types of machinery. Hence at the moment the

designation "Part 7" is an ahead action taking into account on adjustment of numbering to the future situation.

ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO

member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical

committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has

the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in

liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical

Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.

International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 3.

The main task of technical committees is to prepare International Standards. Draft International Standards adopted

by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an International

Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting a vote.

Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this part of ISO 11375 may be the subject of

patent rights. ISO shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.

ISO 11375-7 was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 195, Building Construction Machinery and Equipment,

Subcommittee SC -, -.

This second/third/... edition cancels and replaces the first/second/... edition (), [clause(s) / subclause(s) / table(s) /

figure(s) / annex(es)] of which [has / have] been technically revised.

ISO 11375 consists of the following parts, under the general title Building Construction Machinery and

Equipment — Terms and Definitions:
Part 1 - General,
Part 2 - Foundation equipment,

Part 3 - Equipment for preparing, conveying and compaction of concrete and mortar,

Part 4 - Equipment for processing reinforcement,
Part 5 - Machines end equipment for aggregate processing
Part 6 - Equipment for installations, finishing works and maintenance,
Part 7 - Road construction and maintenance equipment,
Part 8 - General-use machinery and equipment used in construction processes.

Introduction

The aim of the standard is to establish terminology of machinery and equipment used for road construction and

maintenance.

The draft makes an extension of ISO 11375:1998 – “Building construction machinery and equipment – Terms and

definitions” and concerns only specialized equipment for pavements construction and roads maintenance.

Whole range of machinery needed for traffic routes, roads, highways, aprons, etc construction includes many

different kinds of machines, which may be divided into following groups:

- machines for agriculture and forestry determined in the scope of ISO/TC 23, e.g.: brush-cutters and brush

saws, log loaders, portable chain saws, branches-shredders, drainage pipe layers, digger ploughs and

other machines defined in ISO 3339-0:1986.
- earth-moving machinery determined in the scope of ISO/TC 127, e.g.:

excavators, tractor dozers, scrapers, loaders, dumpers, trenchers, graders, rollers, vibratory plates,

rammers and other machines defined in ISO 6165:1997, ISO 6747:1998, ISO 7131:1997, ISO 7132:1990,

ISO 7133:1994, ISO 7134:1993 and ISO/DIS 8811.

- building construction machinery commonly used on construction sites, determined in the scope of ISO/TC

195. For instance: formworks, drum mixers, machines and equipment for concrete mix production, truck

concrete mixers and concrete transport skips, concrete pumps, vibrating beams, floating machines,

concrete vacuum treatment units, core drilling units and other machines defined in ISO 11375:1998 items 1

to 6.

- general use machinery and equipment – such as: power tools (e.g. hammers), industrial vacuum cleaners,

blowers, water pumps, portable chain saws, liquid gas heating units, infrared heaters etc. .

- specialized machines and equipment designed especially for road construction and maintenance

The document provides terms and definitions of the last group of machinery. Enclosed figures represent a general

view or outline of individual machines.

Part 7:
Road construction and maintenance equipment
1 Scope

The document specifies terminology and definitions only for specialized machinery and equipment used for

construction, and maintenance of traffic routes, roads, highways, runways, aprons, etc.

This document does not include terms and definitions of these machines, used for road construction and

maintenance, which belongs to the scopes of the following ISO-technical committees:

- Machines for agriculture and forestry determined in the scope of ISO/TC 23.
- Earth-moving machinery determined in the scope of ISO/ TC127.

- Building construction machinery commonly used on construction sites, determined in the scope of ISO/TC 195.

- General use machinery and equipment-such as: power tools, industrial vacuum cleaners, water pumps, portable

chain saws, etc.
