- Abstract
The present document contains the Test Suite Structure (TSS) and Test Purposes (TP) to test the BRAN HIPERLAN Type 2; Conformance testing for the packet based convergence layer; Part 1: Common part. The objective of the present document is to provide a basis for conformance tests for HIPERLAN Type 2 equipment giving a high probability of air interface inter-operability between different manufacturer's HIPERLAN Type 2 equipment. The ISO standard for the methodology of conformance testing (ISO/IEC 9646-1 [3] and ISO/IEC 9646-2 [4]) as well as the ETSI rules for conformance testing (ETS 300 406 [2]) are used as a basis for the test methodology.

SIST EN 301 811-1-2 V1.1.1:2006 is the Slovenian adoption of ETSI EN 301 811-1-2, a European Telecommunications Standard for Broadband Radio Access Networks (BRAN) HIPERLAN Type 2. It specifies the Test Suite Structure (TSS) and Test Purposes (TP) for conformance testing of the packet based convergence layer, Part 1: Common part. Manufacturers, test laboratories and quality teams use it to structure interoperability-oriented tests for Access Point (AP) and Mobile Terminal (MT) equipment.
What does SIST EN 301 811-1-2 V1.1.1:2006 specify?
SIST EN 301 811-1-2 V1.1.1:2006 defines how to organize and describe conformance tests for the common part of the packet based convergence layer. Its focus is on test structure and test purposes, not on the full implementation or the lower-level protocol details.
The document is organized into five main clauses:
- Clause 1 - Scope
- Clause 2 - References
- Clause 3 - Definitions and abbreviations
- Clause 4 - Test suite structure
- Clause 5 - Test Purposes
In practice, this means the document gives the testing framework and the named test objectives that a test suite needs in order to assess equipment in a consistent way.
What are the key requirements of SIST EN 301 811-1-2 V1.1.1:2006?
Clause 4 defines the test suite structure
SIST EN 301 811-1-2 V1.1.1:2006 organizes the test suite as a tree with protocol groups for PCL-AP and PCL-MT, then common procedures, then sender and receiver functions. This matters because it separates what is being tested by device role and by direction of operation, which helps test labs select the right cases for an AP or an MT.
The main test groups are CA, BV, BI and BO
The document uses four standard ISO test groups: Capability (CA), Valid Behaviour (BV), Invalid Behaviour (BI) and Inopportune Behaviour (BO). CA checks claimed capabilities against the Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS), BV checks correct reactions to valid Protocol Data Units (PDUs), BI checks reactions to syntactically invalid PDUs, and BO checks reactions to correct but unexpected PDUs. This gives users a practical way to separate feature coverage from error handling.
Clause 5 standardizes how Test Purposes are written
SIST EN 301 811-1-2 V1.1.1:2006 defines each TP by a unique TP Id, a reference, an initial condition, a stimulus and an expected behaviour. It also defines the naming pattern TP////-, where the identifier shows the side type, protocol group, functional module and test type. This makes test results easier to trace back to the exact requirement they verify.
The TP set covers AP and MT sender and receiver procedures
Clause 5 lists TP for AP and MT, each split into sender side and receiver side procedures. The sender-side cases check continuous and discontinuous streams of CPCS PDU and segmentation of a large CPCS PDU near the Maximum Transmission Unit. The receiver-side cases check discarding malformed CPCS PDU, delivering valid payload to SSCS, handling continuous and discontinuous received traffic, and reassembling received SAR_UNITDATA. For users, this means the document addresses both traffic generation and traffic reception behavior.
The test purposes are based on TS 101 493-1
SIST EN 301 811-1-2 V1.1.1:2006 states that all TPs are specified according to TS 101 493-1. That links the test objectives directly to the packet based convergence layer common part specification, so the test suite can be used against the defined protocol behavior rather than ad hoc expectations.
What terms does SIST EN 301 811-1-2 V1.1.1:2006 define?
- IUT - Implementation Under Test, the equipment or implementation being exercised by the test case.
- PICS - Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement, the declaration used to check claimed capabilities.
- TSS - Test Suite Structure, the way the test cases are grouped and organized.
- TP - Test Purpose, the statement of what a test case is intended to verify.
- CPCS - Common Part Convergence Layer, the layer whose PDU handling is covered by the test purposes.
- SSCS - Service Specific Convergence Sublayer, the higher layer that receives payload from the CPCS receiver tests.
- PDU - Protocol Data Unit, the message unit used for valid, invalid and unexpected message exchanges.
Who uses SIST EN 301 811-1-2 V1.1.1:2006?
SIST EN 301 811-1-2 V1.1.1:2006 is used by equipment manufacturers, conformance test laboratories, interoperability teams and quality managers working with HIPERLAN Type 2. It helps them define test campaigns, check declared features against PICS, and verify how AP and MT implementations behave in sender and receiver scenarios. Buyers and technical reviewers can also use it to understand what kind of conformance evidence a supplier should provide.
What changed in SIST EN 301 811-1-2 V1.1.1:2006 from the previous edition?
The document history shows an earlier publication as TS 101 811-1-1 before the EN 301 811-1-2 V1.1.1 publication. The history also records the final publication of V1.1.1 in January 2001.
Which standards are used with SIST EN 301 811-1-2 V1.1.1:2006?
- TS 101 493-1 - provides the packet based convergence layer common part definitions that the test purposes validate.
- ETS 300 406 - gives the ETSI testing and specification methodology used as part of the conformance test basis.
- ISO/IEC 9646-1 - provides the general conformance testing methodology and framework.
- ISO/IEC 9646-2 - provides the Abstract Test Suite (ATS) specification framework.
- ISO/IEC 9646-6 - covers protocol profile test specification.
- ISO/IEC 9646-7 - covers Implementation Conformance Statements and related definitions.
What does the SIST EN 301 811-1-2 V1.1.1:2006 document contain?
SIST EN 301 811-1-2 V1.1.1:2006 contains a figure showing the common PBCL test suite structure, plus the rules used to define and name test purposes. It also lists the AP and MT test purposes for sender and receiver behavior, organized under the CA category in the published list. For readers building a test plan, the document acts as the map for what to test and how to label each test purpose.
