Overview

SIST EN 1329-1:2026 specifies the requirements for unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-U) piping systems designed for soil and waste discharge-both low and high temperature-within building structures. The standard outlines detailed specifications for solid wall pipes and fittings, including material composition, dimensions, and system requirements. Applications include installation above ground inside buildings, outside buildings fixed on walls (marked "B"), and, for larger components (≥ 75 mm), for both inside buildings and buried in ground within the building structure (marked "BD").

This document is an essential reference for manufacturers, designers, builders, and engineers working in building construction and drainage systems, ensuring product compatibility, performance, and safety.

Key Topics

  • PVC-U Material Requirements: Specifies solid wall pipes with smooth internal and external surfaces, extruded from one formulation throughout the pipe wall. The PVC-U may consist of virgin, reworked, or recycled materials, with clear guidelines for content and composition.
  • Application Areas:
    • “B”: Above ground or fixed externally to buildings.
    • “BD”: Both indoor and buried underground within building structures (≥ 75 mm nominal diameter).
  • Component Compatibility: Outlines requirements for the use of compatible plastics products from other system standards, provided dimensions and joint specifications are met.
  • Additional Uses:
    • Suitable for plumbing ventilation and rainwater drainage within building structures.
  • Marking and Identification: Includes comprehensive marking guidelines to distinguish application area and compliance.
  • Mechanical and Physical Performance: Addresses impact resistance, dimensional tolerances, color recommendations, and other essential properties.
  • Sustainability: Allows the use of up to 100% recycled PVC-U under strict quality controls and specifications.

Applications

SIST EN 1329-1:2026 is widely used in the construction, refurbishment, and maintenance of building drainage systems. Its practical value includes:

  • Building Soil and Waste Systems: Ensures that pipes and fittings can reliably carry soil and waste water at varying temperatures, both above and below ground.
  • Ventilation and Rainwater Systems: Permits the use of the same system for vent pipes and internal rainwater drainage, simplifying design and stock management.
  • System Integration: Products compliant with this standard can be integrated with components conforming to other referenced plastics piping standards, provided they meet jointing dimension requirements, supporting broader system compatibility.
  • Environmental Performance: Encourages the use of recycled materials, reducing environmental impact without compromising safety or durability, supporting green building practices and circular economy goals.

Related Standards

When designing or specifying plastics piping systems, it is important to refer to related and supporting standards, such as:

  • EN 1453-1: Covers multilayer and foamed core PVC-U pipes not within the scope of EN 1329-1.
  • EN 476: Specifies general requirements for components used in gravity discharge pipes, drains, and sewers; compliance with SIST EN 1329-1:2026 ensures compliance with EN 476.
  • EN 681-1 & EN 681-2: Material requirements for elastomeric seals in water and drainage applications.
  • EN 13501-1: Fire classification requirements for construction products.
  • EN ISO 1167, EN ISO 3126, EN ISO 1254, EN ISO 3451-5: Test methods and specifications referenced for proof of performance and compatibility.

For any entity involved in water management and building drainage systems, adopting SIST EN 1329-1:2026 provides assurance in system reliability, quality, and regulatory compliance. This standard plays a central role in modern plumbing, sustainable construction, and effective waste management infrastructure.

marking by “B”;
— for both inside buildings and buried in ground within the building structure, which is reflected in the
marking by “BD”. This intended use is only applicable for components with nominal outside
diameters equal to or greater than 75 mm.
NOTE 1 Multilayer pipes with different formulations throughout the wall and foamed core pipes are covered by

purposes:
— ventilating part of the pipework in association with discharge applications;
— rainwater pipework within the building structure.
This document covers a range of nominal sizes, a range of pipes and fittings series and gives

to enable conformity with the requirements of this document.
The dosage level of each ingredient of the formulation shall be specified by the manufacturer as part of
the quality documentation.
Conformity of the product (pipes, fittings or the system as applicable) with all the requirements of this
document shall be demonstrated.
PVC-U material may be virgin material, reworked material or recyclates (pre- or post-consumer).

comply with the requirements given in 5.2.
Recyclates may be used under the following conditions:
— recyclates shall be supplied with an agreed specification in accordance with Annex A;
— for each agreed specification, the minimum and maximum amounts of recyclate in the formulation
shall be specified by the manufacturer and the conformity with all the requirements of this document
shall be demonstrated by testing the product:
— with no or minimum recyclate content, and
— with maximum recyclate content;
NOTE 1 Formulations with recyclate content between minimum and maximum are deemed to comply as well.
NOTE 2 Recyclates from different suppliers complying with the same agreed specification are deemed to be
interchangeable.
— the quantity of recyclates that is added in each production batch shall be recorded by the
manufacturer.
NOTE 3 The total recyclate content in the formulation is the sum of the recyclate added and the recyclate present
in reworked material.
