SIST EN ISO 8437-2:2021/A1:2026 is the Slovenian adoption of the European amendment EN ISO 8437-2:2021/A1:2026 for pedestrian-controlled snow throwers. It updates the safety requirements and test procedures for combustion engine powered machines, so designers, manufacturers, test laboratories and compliance teams can apply the same changes in product design, testing and conformity work.
What does SIST EN ISO 8437-2:2021/A1:2026 specify?
SIST EN ISO 8437-2:2021/A1:2026 specifies safety requirements for combustion engine powered pedestrian-controlled snow throwers. As an amendment, it changes selected parts of EN ISO 8437-2:2021 rather than replacing the whole series.
The document is organized as a European amendment with a European foreword and informative Annex ZA. Annex ZA links the standard to Directive 2006/42/EC for European use.
| Annex | What it covers |
|---|---|
| ZA | Relationship between this European Standard and the essential requirements of Directive 2006/42/EC aimed to be covered |
What are the key requirements of SIST EN ISO 8437-2:2021/A1:2026?
SIST EN ISO 8437-2:2021/A1:2026 makes three targeted changes that matter in practice. They narrow the scope, point users to a specific structural test, and update the regional and national requirements note.
The scope is replaced with wording that limits the document to combustion engine powered pedestrian-controlled snow throwers. For users, that means the amendment is focused on this machine type and not on other snow thrower configurations.
Clause 4.2.1 adds a check for the structural integrity of non-metallic snow discharge chutes and deflectors by using the testing and acceptance criteria of ISO 8437-1:2019, 4.2. In practice, designers and test labs need to use that referenced method when verifying these parts.
Clause A.2.1 is replaced so that, for additional regional and national requirements, ISO 8437-4:2019, Clause 5 applies. This gives manufacturers and market access teams a place to look when they need country-specific provisions.
Annex ZA ties the standard to the essential health and safety requirements of Directive 2006/42/EC. For compliance work, that matters because the normative clauses listed there are the route to presumption of conformity within the scope of the standard.
Annex ZA also shows which EN ISO clauses relate to subjects such as guards, control systems, maintenance, instructions, noise, vibration and markings. That helps a buyer or manufacturer see where design, documentation and testing evidence will be needed.
What terms does SIST EN ISO 8437-2:2021/A1:2026 define?
SIST EN ISO 8437-2:2021/A1:2026 uses a few key terms that frame its application.
- Pedestrian-controlled snow throwers - snow throwers operated by a walking person, which is the machine type covered by the scope.
- Combustion engine powered - driven by a combustion engine, which is important because the amendment applies to this power source.
- Non-metallic snow discharge chutes and deflectors - discharge components made from non-metallic materials, which are checked by the referenced structural integrity test.
- Annex ZA - the European annex that maps the standard to Directive 2006/42/EC.
- Presumption of conformity - the regulatory benefit described in Annex ZA when the relevant normative clauses are applied and the standard is cited in the Official Journal of the European Union.
- CEN - the European Committee for Standardization, which approved the amendment as a European Standard.
Who uses SIST EN ISO 8437-2:2021/A1:2026?
SIST EN ISO 8437-2:2021/A1:2026 is used by manufacturers, product designers, test laboratories and compliance teams working on pedestrian-controlled snow throwers. They use it to align safety design, verify structural parts, and prepare technical documentation.
It is also relevant to quality managers, certification bodies and market surveillance staff who need to check whether a machine follows the referenced safety and test provisions. For European market access, Annex ZA is especially useful because it connects the technical clauses to machinery legislation.
What changed in SIST EN ISO 8437-2:2021/A1:2026 from the previous edition?
SIST EN ISO 8437-2:2021/A1:2026 modifies EN ISO 8437-2:2021 in three stated ways.
- It replaces the scope paragraph with a scope limited to combustion engine powered pedestrian-controlled snow throwers.
- It adds a compliance check in Clause 4.2.1 for the structural integrity of non-metallic snow discharge chutes and deflectors using ISO 8437-1:2019, 4.2.
- It replaces Clause A.2.1, paragraph 2, so that ISO 8437-4:2019, Clause 5 applies for additional regional and national requirements.
Which standards are used with SIST EN ISO 8437-2:2021/A1:2026?
The document names several standards that support its application.
- ISO 3411:2007 - provides operator dimensions and minimum operator space envelope information.
- ISO 8437-1:2019 - provides terminology and common tests, including the referenced structural integrity test.
- ISO 8437-3 - is part of the same snow thrower series and is intended for use with this part.
- ISO 8437-4:2019 - provides information on national and regional provisions.
- ISO 12100:2010 - gives the general principles for risk assessment and risk reduction.
What does the SIST EN ISO 8437-2:2021/A1:2026 document contain?
SIST EN ISO 8437-2:2021/A1:2026 contains the amendment instructions, the European foreword and informative Annex ZA. The amendment text identifies the scope change and the two clause updates, while Annex ZA links the standard to Directive 2006/42/EC.
It also includes the correspondence table that maps EN ISO clauses to essential health and safety requirements of the Machinery Directive. For users, that table is the main bridge between product testing and regulatory conformity work.

This European Standard has been prepared under a Commission’s standardization request “M/396
Mandate to CEN and CENELEC for Standardisation in the field of machinery" to provide one voluntary
means of conforming to essential requirements of Directive 2006/42/EC of the European Parliament
and of the Council of 17 May 2006 on machinery, and amending Directive 95/16/EC (recast).
Once this standard is cited in the Official Journal of the European Union under that Directive,
compliance with the normative clauses of this standard given in Table ZA.1 confers, within the limits of
the scope of this standard, a presumption of conformity with the corresponding essential requirements
of that Directive, and associated EFTA regulations.
