This European Standard specifies the equipment and procedures for determining the short term water absorption of preformed pipe insulation by partial immersion in water. It is applicable to thermal insulating products.
NOTE It is intended to simulate the water absorption caused by exposure to rain for 24 h during product installation.
If the pipe insulation is cut from a flat product, then the short term water absorption by partial immersion can be obtained from tests carried out on the flat product with similar properties in accordance with EN 1609, providing the test is carried out in the direction giving the highest water uptake.

Diese Internationale Norm legt Prüfeinrichtungen und Verfahren zur Bestimmung der Wasseraufnahme bei kurzzeitigem teilweisem Eintauchen von vorgeformten Rohrdämmstoffen fest. Sie gilt für Wärmedämm-produkte.
ANMERKUNG Mit dem Verfahren kann die Wasseraufnahme simuliert werden, die bei einer 24-stündigen Regenperiode während des Einbauens der Produkte auftritt.
Wenn der Rohrdämmstoff aus einem ebenen Produkt geschnitten wird, kann die Wasseraufnahme bei kurzzeitigem teilweisem Eintauchen aus Prüfungen ermittelt werden, die an einem ebenen Produkt mit ähnlichen Eigenschaften nach ISO 29767 durchgeführt werden, vorausgesetzt, die Prüfung wird in der Richtung durchgeführt, die die höchste Wasseraufnahme ergibt.
Diese Internationale Norm wurde für Produkte erarbeitet, die zum Dämmen von haustechnischen und betriebstechnischen Anlagen eingesetzt werden; sie kann aber auch auf Produkte für andere Anwendungsbereiche angewendet werden.

Le présent document spécifie l’équipement et les modes opératoires à suivre pour déterminer l’absorption d’eau à court terme par immersion partielle de coquilles isolantes préformées. Il s’applique aux produits isolants thermiques.
NOTE Il est destiné à simuler l’absorption d’eau causée par l’exposition à la pluie pendant 24 h, lors de la mise en œuvre du produit.
Le présent document a été élaboré pour les produits utilisés pour l’isolation des équipements des bâtiments et des installations industrielles, mais il peut aussi être appliqué à des produits utilisés dans d’autres domaines.

OPOMBA: Namenjen je simulaciji vpijanja vode pri 24-urni izpostavljenosti dežju med nameščanjem proizvoda.
Če je cevna izolacija izrezana iz ploščatega proizvoda, je mogoče vpojnost vode z delno kratkotrajno potopitvijo pridobiti s preskusi, izvedenimi na ploščatem proizvodu s podobnimi lastnostmi v skladu s standardom EN 1609, pri čemer se preskus izvede v smeri, ki zagotavlja največje vpijanje vode.

This document (EN ISO 12623:2022) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 163/SC 1
"Test and measurement methods" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 88 “Thermal
insulating materials and products” the secretariat of which is held by DIN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by March 2023, and conflicting national standards shall
be withdrawn at the latest by September 2025.

1 Scope
This document specifies the equipment and procedures for determining the short-term water
absorption of preformed pipe insulation by partial immersion in water. It is applicable to thermal
insulating products.

of a test specimen, the lower part of which is in contact with water for a period of 24 h.

industrial installations — Determination of short-term water
absorption by partial immersion of preformed pipe insulation
1 Scope
This International Standard specifies the equipment and procedures for determining the short-term
water absorption of preformed pipe insulation by partial immersion in water. It is applicable to thermal
insulating products.
NOTE It is intended to simulate the water absorption caused by exposure to rain for 24 h during product
installation.
