EN 1428:2012 - Bitumen and bituminous binders: Determination of water content in bituminous emulsions (azeotropic distillation method) is a CEN standard that specifies a laboratory method to measure water content in bituminous emulsions. The method uses an azeotropic distillation with a water‑immiscible solvent/carrier liquid (commonly xylene, with toluene as referee solvent) to separate and quantify water. The standard is intended for routine quality control and referee testing of emulsions used in paving, roofing and other bituminous binder applications.

- Precision: Repeatability ±1% absolute (r), reproducibility ±2% absolute (R); for emulsions containing a flux reproducibility is 3%.
