Overview
SIST EN IEC 62841-2-19:2026/A11:2026 is a European amendment developed by CLC (European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization) to supplement EN IEC 62841-2-19:2025, establishing specific safety requirements for electric motor-operated hand-held jointers. The standard is part of the EN IEC 62841 series, which covers the general and specific safety requirements for electric hand-held tools, transportable tools, and lawn and garden machinery. This amendment aligns with the EU Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC), providing a framework for compliance and harmonization across European markets.
This standard is integral for manufacturers, importers, and regulatory bodies concerned with the safety and conformity of hand-held jointers used in woodworking, construction, and related industries.
Key Topics
SIST EN IEC 62841-2-19:2026/A11:2026 covers a range of critical topics associated with the safe design, operation, and labeling of hand-held jointers, including:
- Normative References: Incorporates reference to EN 847-1:2017 for woodworking tools’ safety requirements.
- Marking and Instructions: Updates labeling requirements to ensure end-users are well-informed about appropriate disc cutters and operational guidelines.
- Mechanical Hazards: Specifies the design of guarding systems, particularly the conditions under which parts may be opened without tools, enhancing maintenance safety.
- Disc Cutter Compliance: Mandates that delivered disc cutters comply with EN 847-1:2017, ensuring suitability for hand feed and minimizing risk.
- Noise and Vibration Measurement: Updates procedures for testing and reporting noise and vibration emissions, supporting worker safety and compliance.
- Battery Tools Safety: Clarifies requirements for isolation and disabling devices in battery-operated models to prevent accidental operation during servicing or maintenance.
- Alignment with EU Legislation: Establishes direct links to essential safety requirements in the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, enabling presumption of conformity.
Applications
This standard is essential in several professional and manufacturing environments:
- Hand-held Jointers: Manufacturers and distributors must align their products with these safety requirements to gain CE marking and market products within the EU.
- Woodworking Industry: Professionals using jointers benefit from improved safety design, clear operating instructions, and reduced risks during maintenance and everyday use.
- Tool Maintenance: Technicians and safety inspectors rely on these requirements to assess and maintain hand-held jointers for safe operation.
- Regulatory Compliance: Companies must demonstrate adherence to this standard to fulfill legal safety obligations under the Machinery Directive and related regulations.
Adhering to SIST EN IEC 62841-2-19:2026/A11:2026 contributes to reduced workplace accidents, enhanced user trust, and streamlined access to European markets for manufacturers.
Related Standards
For comprehensive safety and compliance, the following related standards should also be considered:
- EN 62841-1:2015 - General requirements for electric motor-operated hand-held tools, transportable tools, and lawn and garden machinery.
- EN 847-1:2017 - Safety requirements for woodworking tools, specifically milling tools and circular saw blades.
- Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC - The main European regulation governing machinery safety, to which this standard directly relates.
- EN IEC 62841 Series - Broader family covering other specific requirements for electric and battery-powered portable tools.
Implementing SIST EN IEC 62841-2-19:2026/A11:2026 ensures manufacturers and professionals are up-to-date with the latest European safety standards for hand-held jointers, facilitating market access and safeguarding users.
