Overview
The SIST EN 62841-2-10:2017/oprA1:2024 standard, issued by the CLC (European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization), covers key safety requirements for electric motor-operated hand-held mixers. This amendment, known as Amendment 1, updates Part 2-10 of the IEC 62841 series, which focuses on particular safety aspects for hand-held mixers within the broader category of electric motor-operated hand-held tools, transportable tools, and lawn and garden machinery.
The standard aims to ensure safety, reliability, and performance by defining specific testing methods, component requirements, and operational guidelines. It supports manufacturers, testing bodies, and regulatory authorities in aligning product development and certifications with accepted international safety benchmarks.
Key Topics
Safety Requirements for Hand-Held Mixers: Focuses on preventing hazards such as electrical shock, thermal overload, and mechanical injuries associated with hand-held mixers.
Thermal Limit Protection: Specifies thermal protection to prevent the mixer from exceeding safe temperature limits during abnormal operation-an update to clause 18 emphasizing reliable overheating safeguards.
Component Specifications: Requires that protection devices or circuits in mixers are non-self-resetting unless the tool includes a momentary power switch that cannot be locked on. This reduces risks of unintentional overheating or electrical faults.
Operational Testing Guidelines: Introduces detailed testing protocols, including the use of the lightest battery with sufficient capacity for battery-operated mixers during no-load operation for at least 25 minutes, simulating typical usage scenarios.
Hand Grip and Ergonomics: Adds specifics on the operator's natural hand position on the flange to enhance user safety and comfort during use.
Compatibility and References: This amendment aligns with the broader IEC 62841 series, ensuring consistency with Part 1 general safety rules while clarifying exceptions and additions relevant to hand-held mixers.
Applications
This standard is critical for:
Manufacturers designing and producing safe, compliant electric hand-held mixers, ensuring their tools meet updated international safety requirements.
Certification Bodies conducting conformity assessments for hand-held mixers to verify compliance with the latest safety standards before granting market access.
Safety Inspectors and Regulators setting national or regional policies referencing IEC standards for electrical tool safety.
Product Designers and Engineers applying standardized testing methods and component specifications to optimize mixer performance while preventing hazards.
End Users and Industry Professionals gaining confidence in the safety and reliability of hand-held mixers used in construction, home improvement, and food production environments.
Related Standards

all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote international
co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and
in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications, Technical Reports,
Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as "IEC Publication(s)"). Their
preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with
may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising
with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely with the International Organization for
Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by agreement between the two organizations.
2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international
consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all
interested IEC National Committees.
