Optical fibre cables -- Part 1-2: Generic specification - Basic optical cable test procedures

Applies to optical fibre cables for use with telecommunication equipment and devices employing similar techniques, and to cables having a combination of both optical fibres and electrical conductors.The object is to define test procedures to be used in establishing uniform requirements for the geometrical, transmission, material, mechanical, ageing (environmental exposure) and climatic properties of optical fibre cables, and electrical requirements where appropriate.

Applicable aux câbles à fibres optiques destinés à être utilisés dans les équipements de télécommunications et les dispositifs utilisant des techniques analogues, ainsi qu'aux câbles constitués de fibres optiques d'une part et de conducteurs électriques d'autre part. L'objet de la présente norme est la définition des procédures d'essai à utiliser pour établir des prescriptions uniformes relatives aux caractéristiques géométriques, de transmission, de matériaux, mécaniques, de vieillissement (exposition à l'environnement) et climatiques des câbles à fibres optiques, ainsi que des prescriptions électriques, si applicable.

EN 60794-1-2:2003 - 2 - Foreword The text of document 86A/848/FDIS, future edition 2 of IEC 60794-1-2, prepared by SC 86A, Fibres and cables, of IEC TC 86, Fibre optics, was submitted to the IEC-CENELEC parallel vote and was approved by CENELEC as EN 60794-1-2 on 2003-11-01. This European Standard supersedes EN 60794-1-2:1999 + A1:2002. This standard shall be used in conjunction with EN 60794-1-1:2002. The following dates were fixed: – latest date by which the EN has to be implemented
