EN 16087-1:2020 (CEN) specifies a laboratory method to determine the aerobic biological activity of soil improvers and growing media by measuring the oxygen uptake rate (OUR).     • Target suspension pH 6.5–7.5.
  • Data handling:
    • Pressure data over the test period are used to calculate OUR; test usually runs seven days or ends earlier if pressure changes exceed limits.

This document (EN 16087-1:2020) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 223 “Soil
improvers and growing media”, the secretariat of which is held by NEN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by July 2020, and conflicting national standards shall be
withdrawn at the latest by July 2020.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of
patent rights. CEN shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
This document supersedes EN 16087-1:2011.
The main changes compared with the previous edition are as follows:
 For the balance (5.6) requirements are added;
