Overview

EN ISO 11200:2014/A1:2020 is an amendment to the international and European standard on acoustics: noise emitted by machinery and equipment. It provides guidelines for the use of basic standards when determining emission sound pressure levels at a work station and at other specified positions. The amendment (ISO 11200:2014/Amd 1:2018) was approved by CEN and adopted as EN ISO 11200:2014/A1:2020 in 2020.

This document is explicitly guidance: it clarifies references and editorial elements of the base standard and is intended to support consistent acoustic assessment and noise measurement practices across national standards bodies. The CEN decision removed the standard's formal link with the EU Machinery Directive on the basis that it provides non-normative guidance rather than prescriptive requirements.

Key Topics

  • Scope and purpose: Guidance on determining emission sound pressure levels at workstations and other specified positions for machinery and equipment.
  • Amendment details: Includes dated references (e.g., ISO 11203:1995 and ISO 11205:2003), editorial corrections, and figure replacements to improve clarity.
  • Technical edits: Examples of specific changes in A1 include replacing “<” with “≤” in a conformity clause and updating Figures B.1 and B.2 to clarify microphone and machine positions.
  • Status and adoption: Approved by CEN (November 2019) and to be adopted as a national standard by CEN members; endorsed without modification from the ISO amendment text.
