Glass in building - Glazing and airborne sound insulation - Product descriptions and determination of properties

This European Standard assigns sound insulation values to all transparent, translucent and opaque glass products, described in European Standards on basic or processed glass products, when intended to be used in glazed assemblies in buildings, and which exhibit properties of acoustic protection, either as a prime intention or as a supplementary characteristic.
This document outlines the procedure, by which glass products may be rated, according to their acoustic performance which enables assessment of compliance with the acoustic requirements of buildings.
Rigorous technical analysis of measurement data remains an option, but this standard is intended to enable the derivation of simpler indices of performance, which can be adopted with confidence by non-specialists.
By adopting the principles of this standard, the formulation of acoustic requirements in Building Codes, and of product specification to satisfy particular needs for glazing is simplified.
It is recognised that the acoustic test procedures of EN ISO 140-1 and EN ISO 140-3 relate fully only to glass panes and their combinations. Although the same principles should be followed as closely as possible, it is inevitable that some compromises are necessary, because of the bulkier construction of other glazing types.
Guidelines on how to adapt these to include glass blocks, bricks, structural glazing, channel-shaped glass and pavers are offered in clause 4.
NOTE   Performance variation in windows.
All the considerations of this standard relate to glass alone. Incorporation of them into windows may cause changes in acoustic performance, owing to other influences, including frame design, frame material, mounting method, air tightness, etc. Measurements of the sound insulation of complete windows (glass and frame) may be undertaken to resolve such issues.

Diese Europäische Norm legt Schalldämmwerte für alle durchsichtigen, durchscheinenden und opaken Glaserzeugnisse fest, die in Europäischen Normen über Basisglaserzeugnisse oder über weiter verarbeitete Glaserzeugnisse mit Schallschutzeigenschaften, vorgesehen für den Gebrauch in verglasten Bauteilen von Gebäuden, beschrieben sind und die entweder als Hauptzweck oder als ergänzende Charakteristik Schalldämmung aufweisen.
Dieses Dokument umreißt das Verfahren, das bei der Bewertung von Glaserzeugnissen nach ihren akustischen Eigenschaften anzuwenden ist und mit dessen Hilfe sich die Übereinstimmung mit den für Gebäude geltenden akustischen Anforderungen beurteilen lässt.
Die strenge technische Analyse der Messwerte bleibt freigestellt, aber diese Norm ermöglicht die Herleitung von einfacheren Kenngrößen, die sich auch Personen, die keine Fachleute sind, vertrauensvoll zu Eigen machen können.
Wenn man sich die Grundsätze dieser Norm zu Eigen macht, wird die Formulierung von akustischen Anforderungen in Bauordnungen und von Produktspezifikationen für die Erfüllung besonderer Bedürfnisse für Glas vereinfacht.
Es wird eingeräumt, dass die akustischen Prüfverfahren von EN ISO 140-1 und EN ISO 140-3 sich in vollem Umfang nur auf Glasscheiben und ihre Kombinationen beziehen. Auch wenn denselben Grundsätzen so gut wie möglich gefolgt werden sollte, ist nicht auszuschließen, dass einige Kompromisse aufgrund der umfangreichen Konstruktion anderer Verglasungsarten notwendig sind.
Abschnitt 4 enthält Angaben, wie diese Grundsätze auf Glassteine, Steine, Glaskonstruktionen, Profilbauglas und Betongläser anzuwenden ist.

La présente Norme européenne assigne des valeurs d'isolement acoustique a tous les produits verriers, qu'ils soient transparents, translucides ou opaques, décrits dans les normes européennes sur les produits verriers de base ou traités destinés a etre utilisés dans les ensembles vitrés des bâtiments et qui présentent des propriétés de protection acoustique, soit des l'origine, soit comme caractéristique supplémentaire.
Le présent document définit la méthode utilisable pour classer les produits verriers en fonction de leurs propriétés isolantes de maniere a permettre l'évaluation de leur conformité aux exigences acoustiques des bâtiments.
L'analyse technique rigoureuse des résultats de mesure demeure une option mais la présente norme est destinée a permettre la définition d'indices de performance simples qui peuvent etre adoptés avec confiance par les non-spécialistes.
L'adoption des principes de la présente norme simplifie la formulation des exigences acoustiques dans les codes de construction et dans les spécifications de produits vitrés devant satisfaire a des besoins particuliers.
Il est admis que les modes opératoires d'essai acoustiques spécifiés dans l'EN ISO 140-1 et EN ISO 140-3 ne se rapportent completement qu'aux vitres en verre et a leurs assemblages. Bien qu'il convienne de suivre les memes principes dans toute la mesure du possible, il est inévitable que des compromis seront nécessaires dans la mesure ou d'autres types de vitrages sont de construction plus robuste.
Des indications sur la maniere d'adapter ces principes aux briques en verre, aux vitrages structuraux, au verre profilé et aux pavés en verre sont données dans l'article 4.
