SIST EN IEC 60127-7:2026 is the Slovenian adoption of EN IEC 60127-7:2026, based on IEC 60127-7:2026. It specifies requirements and uniform test methods for miniature fuse-links for special applications, for manufacturers, testing houses, and anyone selecting or verifying these components.
What does SIST EN IEC 60127-7:2026 specify?
SIST EN IEC 60127-7:2026 covers miniature fuse-links for special applications and sets the ratings, marking, construction, test methods, and standard sheets used to verify them. It applies to fuse-links with a rated voltage not exceeding 1 000 V, a rated current not exceeding 125 A, and a rated breaking capacity not exceeding 50 kA.
The document is written to be used together with IEC 60127-1:2023. It supplements and modifies Part 1, and where Part 1 is not specifically changed, it applies as far as reasonable.
| Clause / annex | Content |
|---|---|
| 1-3 | Scope, normative references, terms and definitions |
| 4-9 | General requirements, ratings, marking, tests, dimensions, construction, electrical requirements |
| 10 | Standard sheets |
| Annex AA | Guidance on ratings to be specified by the manufacturer or agreed with the testing house |
| Bibliography | Related reference IEC 60269-1:2024 |
The scope also makes the intended use clear: these fuse-links are not meant to be replaced by the end-user of an appliance, and the standard is aimed at verification of manufacturer-declared values such as melting time and breaking capacity.
What are the key requirements of SIST EN IEC 60127-7:2026?
SIST EN IEC 60127-7:2026 combines product definition, test set-up, and acceptance criteria. In practice, it tells a manufacturer what to declare, a laboratory what to test, and a buyer or quality manager what evidence to ask for.
Ratings and marking
Clause 5 requires the rated voltage, rated current, rated breaking capacity, and time/current characteristic to be agreed between the manufacturer and the testing house. The time/current characteristic must at least be stated at 2,0 I or 2,1 I and at 10 I, with optional values at 2,75 I and 4 I. This matters because the product cannot be specified, tested, or compared correctly unless these key ratings are fixed first.
Clause 6 requires the type designation and the rated breaking capacity to be marked, and the package label must also carry the rated breaking capacity. Colour-band marking from IEC 60127-1:2023, Annex A, is not permitted here. If space is tight, the essential information is to be given on the smallest package and in the manufacturer’s literature.
Construction and test set-up
Clause 8 requires the fuse-element to be completely enclosed. Fuse-links must resist heat and fire, and plastic or organic body materials are tied to Glow-wire ignition temperature (GWIT) and Glow-wire flammability index (GWFI) limits. This is important for safety reviews because it links the component design to the fire behavior expected in real equipment.
Clause 8.3 applies only to fuse-links with wire terminations and requires corrosion-resistant terminations, secure attachment, and mechanical robustness checked with IEC 60068-2-21. The text gives tensile, thrust, and bending test methods, and the terminations must still be firmly attached afterward. In practice, this is the part that shows whether the fuse can survive handling, assembly, and service stresses.
Clause 7.4 defines the test hardware. Fuse-links intended for a special type of fuse-holder are tested in that fuse-holder, surface mount fuse-links use the test board in Figure 2, and wire-termination fuse-links use the test board in Figure 1. If several fuse-links are tested in series, spacing and conductor sizes are controlled, so the laboratory setup reflects the intended mounting method.
Electrical performance and type tests
Clause 9.1 says voltage drop is measured directly at the terminations or close to the body, with the test-board connection points used where applicable. This is the practical basis for checking losses and thermal behavior.
Clause 9.2 requires the manufacturer to define the time/current limits in standard sheet 1. Clause 9.3 requires breaking capacity testing for the declared AC, DC, or AC/DC rating, with the associated power factor or time constant, and the declared breaking capacity must not be less than 35 A or 10 times the rated current, whichever is greater. The pass criteria also forbid contact fusing, unreadable marking after test, visible piercing, and scorching or melting of organic external material.
Clause 9.4 gives two endurance test methods, A and B, and links them to the declared test currents. Clause 9.5 covers maximum sustained power dissipation, and Clause 9.7 gives temperature-rise checks for fuse-links on printed circuit boards and in fuse-holders. These clauses are the core qualification steps for deciding whether the fuse-link behaves safely under continuous load, overload, and installation conditions.
Clause 7.3 and Tables 104 to 109 define the sample numbers and testing schedules for individual ratings, homogeneous series, and intermediate ratings. That means certification and design validation are not ad hoc - they follow a fixed sample plan.
What terms does SIST EN IEC 60127-7:2026 define?
- Miniature fuse-link for special applications - An enclosed fuse-link outside IEC 60127-2, IEC 60127-3, and IEC 60127-4, with rated breaking capacity not exceeding 50 kA and maximum body dimensions of 12 mm by 12 mm by 50 mm.
- Rated breaking capacity - The declared current-interruption capability of the fuse-link, stated for AC, DC, or both.
- Time/current characteristic - The relationship between current and operating time, used to verify how quickly the fuse-link responds to overloads.
- Itest(A) - The test current used for endurance testing according to method A.
- Itest(B) - The test current used for endurance testing according to method B.
- GWIT - Glow-wire ignition temperature, used to judge ignition behavior of body materials.
- GWFI - Glow-wire flammability index, used to judge flammability behavior of body materials.
- Homogeneous series - A group of fuse-links tested through rated-current schedules that cover maximum, minimum, and intermediate current ratings.
Who uses SIST EN IEC 60127-7:2026?
SIST EN IEC 60127-7:2026 is used by fuse manufacturers, test laboratories, and certification bodies when qualifying miniature fuse-links for special applications. It is also used by equipment designers, quality managers, and buyers who need to confirm the fuse-link rating, marking, test method, and mounting conditions before approving a component for use.
The standard is particularly relevant where fuse-links are mounted on printed circuit boards or in specially designed fuse-holders, and where replacement by the end-user is not intended.
What changed in SIST EN IEC 60127-7:2026 from the previous edition?
SIST EN IEC 60127-7:2026 supersedes EN 60127-7:2016 and all of its amendments and corrigenda, if any. The text identifies these significant technical changes from the previous edition:
- alignment with IEC 60127-1:2023;
- change of the rated current of miniature fuse-links for special application to 125 A, with the related requirements;
- addition of a test board for surface mount fuse-links;
- addition of test schedules for homogeneous series.

INTRODUCTION
According to the wish expressed by the users of miniature fuses, all standards,
recommendations and other documents relating to miniature fuses have the same publication
number in order to facilitate reference to fuses in other specifications, for example, equipment
specifications.
Furthermore, a single publication number and subdivision into parts would facilitate the
establishment of new standards, because clauses and subclauses containing general
requirements need not be repeated.
