EN-ISO 17131 specifies a method using microscopy to identify leather and distinguish it from other materials. The method is not applicable for identifying specific leathers (e.g. sheep leather).

This document (EN ISO 17131:2020) has been prepared by Technical Committee IULTCS "International
Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies" in collaboration with Technical Committee
CEN/TC 289 “Leather” the secretariat of which is held by UNI.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by October 2020, and conflicting national standards shall
be withdrawn at the latest by October 2020.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of

Dieser Europäische Norm-Entwurf wird den CEN-Mitgliedern zur parallelen Umfrage vorgelegt. Er wurde vom Technischen
Komitee CEN/TC 289 erstellt.

Vorwort
ISO (die Internationale Organisation für Normung) ist eine weltweite Vereinigung nationaler
Normungsorganisationen (ISO-Mitgliedsorganisationen). Die Erstellung von Internationalen Normen wird
üblicherweise von Technischen Komitees von ISO durchgeführt. Jede Mitgliedsorganisation, die Interesse an
einem Thema hat, für welches ein Technisches Komitee gegründet wurde, hat das Recht, in diesem Komitee
vertreten zu sein. Internationale staatliche und nichtstaatliche Organisationen, die in engem Kontakt mit ISO
stehen, nehmen ebenfalls an der Arbeit teil. ISO arbeitet bei allen elektrotechnischen Themen eng mit der
Internationalen Elektrotechnischen Kommission (IEC) zusammen.
Internationale Normen werden nach den Regeln der ISO/IEC-Direktiven Teil 2 gestaltet.
Die Hauptaufgabe der Technischen Komitees ist es, Internationale Normen zu erarbeiten. Die von den
Technischen Komitees verabschiedeten internationalen Norm-Entwürfe werden den
Mitgliedskörperschaften zur Abstimmung vorgelegt. Die Veröffentlichung als Internationale Norm erfordert
Zustimmung von mindestens 75 % der abstimmenden Mitgliedskörperschaften.
Es wird auf die Möglichkeit hingewiesen, dass einige Elemente dieses Dokuments Patentrechte berühren
können. ISO ist nicht dafür verantwortlich, einige oder alle diesbezüglichen Patentrechte zu identifizieren.
ISO 17131 wurde vom Europäischen Komitee für Normung (CEN), Technisches Komitee CEN/TC 289, Leder,
in Zusammenarbeit mit der Kommission für physikalische Prüfungen der „International Union of Leather
Technologists and Chemists Societies“ (IUC Commission, IULTCS) gemäß der Vereinbarung über technische
Kooperation zwischen ISO und CEN (Wiener Vereinbarung) erarbeitet.
IULTCS wurde 1897 gegründet und ist eine weltweite Organisation professioneller Ledergesellschaften zur
Weiterentwicklung der Lederwissenschaft und -technologie. IULTCS hat drei Kommissionen, die für die
Festlegung von international angewandten Verfahren für die Probenahme und Prüfung von Leder
verantwortlich sind. ISO erkennt IULTCS als ein internationales Normungsinstitut für die Vorbereitung von
Prüfverfahren von Leder an.
Diese zweite Ausgabe ersetzt die erste Ausgabe (ISO 17131:2012), die technisch wie folgt überarbeitet
wurde:
— Aufnahme von Phasenkontrast-Querschnittsaufnahmen im Lichtmikroskop in einen neuen normativen
Anhang C;
— Abschnitt 5 und Abschnitt 6 wurden dahingehend geändert, dass sie die Vorbereitung für diese
Lichtmikroskopietechnik beinhalten.

Einleitung
Die Identifizierung von Leder wird am besten von Mitarbeitern durchgeführt, die über Erfahrung in der
Materialidentifikation mittels Mikroskopie, dem bevorzugten Verfahren, verfügen. Mit anderen Verfahren,
wie z. B. der chemischen Analyse, kann es schwierig sein, ein Material eindeutig als Leder zu identifizieren.

Dieses Dokument legt ein mikroskopisches Verfahren fest, um Leder zu identifizieren und um Leder von
