Paints and varnishes - Cross-cut test (ISO 2409:1992)

This international standard describes a test method for assessing the resistance of paint coatings to separation from substrates when a right-angle lattice pattern is cut into the coating, penetrating through the substrate.

Foreword
IS0 (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide
federation of national standards bodies (IS0 member bodies). The work
of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through IS0
technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for
which a technical committee has been established has the right to be
represented on that committee. International organizations, govern-
mental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the
work. IS0 collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical
Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.
Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are
circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an lnter-
national Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member
bodies casting a vote.
International Standard IS0 2409 was prepared by Technical Committee
ISO/TC 35, Paints and varnishes, Sub-Committee SC 9, General test
methods for paints and varnishes.
This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition
(IS0 2409:1972), which has been technically revised. The main technical
changes in this second edition are that, in the procedure, the spacing
of the cuts is prescribed, depending on the thickness of the coating and
the type of substrate, and that for hard substrates application of ad-
hesive tape has been added.
Annex A forms an integral part of this International Standard.
