Standard Specification for Dehumidifier, Shipboard, Mechanically Refrigerated, Self-Contained

ABSTRACT
This specification covers the performance requirements and corresponding test procedures for self-contained shipboard dehumidifiers that use hermetic refrigerant motor-compressors. The components of the dehumidifier, including the motor-compressor, condensing unit, dehumidifying coil, air-circulating fan, and accessories, shall all be enclosed within a metal cabinet. Dehumidifiers shall be evaluated by design capacity test, overload test, inclination test, and corrosion resistance test, and should operate satisfactorily as specified. Requirements for design documentation, schematic drawings, and manufacturer's manual are also considered.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers self-contained dehumidifiers using hermetic refrigerant motor-compressors.
1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard.
1.3 The following safety hazards caveat pertains only to the test methods portion, Section 11, of this specification: This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
