Additive manufacturing - Material extrusion-based additive manufacturing of plastic materials - Part 1: Feedstock materials (ISO/ASTM 52903-1:2020)

This document describes a method for defining requirements for plastic materials used in extrusion-based additive manufacturing (AM) processes. Materials include unfilled, filled, and reinforced plastic materials suitable for processing into parts. These materials can also contain special additives (e.g. flame retardants, stabilizers, etc.). Processes include all material extrusion-based AM processes.
This document is intended for use by manufacturers of materials, feedstocks, plastic parts or any combination of the three using material extrusion-based AM.
NOTE       In some cases, material manufacturers can also be feedstock manufacturers. In other cases, a material manufacturer can supply materials (example: pellets) to a feedstock manufacturer (example: converter of pellets into filaments).
This document does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

Dieses Dokument beschreibt ein Verfahren zur Definition von Anforderungen an Kunststoffmaterialien, die in additiven Fertigungsprozessen (AM, en: additive manufacturing) auf Grundlage von Werkstoffextrusion verwendet werden. Materialien beinhalten nicht gefüllte, gefüllte und verstärkte Kunststoffmaterialien, die für die Verarbeitung zu Teilen geeignet sind. Diese Kunststoffe können auch spezielle Additive (z. B. Flammschutzmittel, Stabilisatoren usw.) enthalten. Die Prozesse umfassen alle AM-Prozesse auf Grundlage von Werkstoffextrusion.
Dieses Dokument ist zur Nutzung durch Hersteller von Werkstoffen, Ausgangsmaterialien, Kunststoffteilen oder jeglicher Kombination der drei unter Verwendung von AM auf Grundlage von Werkstoffextrusion vorgesehen.
ANMERKUNG   In manchen Fällen können Werkstoffhersteller auch Ausgangsmaterialhersteller sein. In anderen Fällen kann ein Werkstoffhersteller einem Ausgangsmateriallieferanten (Beispiel: Umformung von Granulat in Filamente) Werkstoffe (Beispiel: Granulat) bereitstellen.
In diesem Dokument werden nicht alle Sicherheitsrisiken, falls vorhanden, behandelt, die bei Anwendung der Norm auftreten können. Le présent document décrit une méthode pour définir les exigences pour les matériaux plastiques utilisés dans les procédés de fabrication additive (FA) à base d'extrusion. Les matériaux comprennent des matériaux plastiques non filaires, filaires et renforcées adaptées à la transformation en pièces. Ces matériaux peuvent également contenir des additifs spéciaux (par exemple, retardateurs de flamme, stabilisants, etc.). Les procédés comprennent tous les procédés de FA à base d'extrusion de matière.
Le présent document est destiné à être utilisé par les fabricants de matériaux, matières premières, pièces en matière plastique ou toute combinaison des trois utilisant la FA à base d'extrusion de matière.

The text of ISO/ASTM 52903-1:2020 has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 261 "Additive
manufacturing” of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and has been taken over as
EN ISO/ASTM 52903-1:2021 by Technical Committee CEN/TC 438 “Additive Manufacturing” the
secretariat of which is held by AFNOR.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by September 2021, and conflicting national standards
shall be withdrawn at the latest by September 2021.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of
patent rights. CEN shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
According to the CEN-CENELEC Internal Regulations, the national standards organizations of the
