ISO 17142:2014 specifies the conditions for the determination of properties at constant-amplitude of load or strain in uniaxial tension/tension or in uniaxial tension/compression cyclic fatigue of ceramic matrix composite materials (CMCs) with fibre reinforcement for temperature up to 1 700 °C in air at atmospheric pressure.
It applies to all ceramic matrix composites with fibre reinforcement, unidirectional (1D), bi-directional (2D), and tri-directional (xD, where 2 < x ≤ 3).
Its purpose is to determine the behaviour of CMC when subjected to mechanical fatigue and oxidation simultaneously. Tests for the determination of fatigue properties at high temperature in inert atmospheres differ from those in oxidative atmospheres. Contrary to an inert atmosphere, damage in an oxidative atmosphere accumulates due to the influence of purely mechanical fatigue and to chemical effects of the material's oxidation.

Diese Internationale Norm legt die Bedingungen zur Bestimmung der Dauerschwingeigenschaften bei einer Temperatur bis zu 1 700 °C in Luft bei Atmosphärendruck für faserverstärkte Verbundwerkstoffe mit keramischer Matrix (CMC) fest, wenn eine einachsige Beanspruchung innerhalb des Zugschwell- (Zug/Zug) oder des Wechselbereiches (Zug/Druck) so aufgebracht wird, dass eine Last oder Dehnung mit konstanter Amplitude erreicht wird.
Diese Internationale Norm gilt für alle faserverstärkten Verbundwerkstoffe mit keramischer Matrix mit unidirektionaler (1D), bidirektionaler (2D) und mehrdirektionaler (xD, mit 2 < x ≤ 3) Verstärkung.
Der Zweck dieser Internationalen Norm besteht darin, das Verhalten der CMC zu bestimmen, wenn sie gleichzeitig einer mechanischen Dauerschwingbeanspruchung und einer Oxidation ausgesetzt werden. Die Prüfungen zur Bestimmung der Dauerschwingeigenschaften bei hoher Temperatur in inerter Atmosphäre unterscheiden sich von den Prüfungen in oxidierenden Atmosphären. Im Gegensatz zu einer inerten Atmosphäre häufen sich in einer oxidierenden Atmosphäre die Schädigungen durch die Auswirkung der rein mechanischen Ermüdung und durch chemische Einflüsse durch die Oxidation des Werkstoffes.

L'ISO 17142:2014 spécifie les conditions de détermination des propriétés de fatigue cyclique à amplitude constante de contrainte ou de déformation en traction/traction ou traction/compression uniaxiale des matériaux composites à matrice céramique (CMC) avec renfort des fibres pour une température jusqu'à 1 700 °C dans l'air à la pression atmosphérique.
La présente Norme internationale s'applique à tous les composites à matrice céramique avec renfort de fibres, unidirectionnel (1D), bidirectionnel (2D) ou tridirectionnel (xD, ou 2 < x 3).
L'ISO 17142:2014 a pour objet de déterminer le comportement des composites à matrice céramique lorsqu'ils sont soumis à la fatigue mécanique dans une ambiance oxydante. Les essais de détermination des propriétés de fatigue à haute température dans des atmosphères inertes sont différents de ceux effectués dans des atmosphères oxydantes. Contrairement à une atmosphère inerte, l'endommagement dans une atmosphère oxydante s'accroît du fait de l'influence de la fatigue mécanique mais aussi des effets chimiques de l'oxydation des matériaux.

Ta mednarodni standard podaja pogoje za določanje lastnosti keramičnih matričnih kompozitnih materialov (CMC) z ojačanimi vlakni pri obremenitvi ali natezanju s konstantno amplitudo pri cikličnem utrujanju z enoosnim natezanjem/natezanjem ali enoosnim natezanjem/stiskanjem pri sobni temperaturi. Ta mednarodni standard se uporablja za vse keramične matrične kompozite z ojačitvijo vlaken, enosmerno (1D), dvosmerno (2D) in trismerno (xD, kjer je 2 < x ≤ 3).

The text of ISO 17142:2014 has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 206 “Fine ceramics” of
the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and has been taken over as EN ISO 17142:2016
by Technical Committee CEN/TC 184 “Advanced technical ceramics” the secretariat of which is held by
DIN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by October 2016, and conflicting national standards shall
be withdrawn at the latest by October 2016.
