-   définissent les indicateurs à déclarer, les informations à fournir, et la manière dont ils sont regroupés et consignés ;
-   décrivent les étapes du cycle de vie des carreaux céramiques prises en compte dans la DEP, ainsi que les processus qui doivent être inclus dans les étapes du cycle de vie ;
-   définissent les règles pour l'élaboration de scénarios ;
-   comprennent les règles de calcul de l'inventaire du cycle de vie et de l'évaluation de l'impact du cycle de vie servant de base à la DEP, y compris la spécification de la qualité des données à appliquer ;
-   comprennent les règles pour rendre compte d'informations prédéterminées relatives à l'environnement et à la santé, qui ne sont pas couvertes par l'ACV des carreaux céramiques, au processus de construction et au service de construction si nécessaire ;

The construction stage shall be as in EN 15804:2012+A2:2019.
6.3.5.4 Use stage
6.3.5.4.1 General
The use stage includes the information modules covering the period from the handover of the building or
construction works to when it is deconstructed or demolished. The duration of the use stage of ceramic
tiles should coincide with the required service life of a building.
The use stage includes the use of ceramic tiles, equipment and services in their proper function. It also
includes their use for protecting, conserving, moderating or controlling a building, e.g. modules
describing the building operation through building related services such as heating, cooling and lighting.
It also includes maintenance (including cleaning), repair, replacement and refurbishment.
It is recognized that it may be difficult to separate all use stage processes and the connected aspects and
impacts into these separate modules.
6.3.5.4.2 B1 - B5 Use stage information modules related to the building fabric
6.3.5.4.2.1 B1 —Use of the installed ceramic tile in terms of any emissions to the environment
(not covered by B2 to B7)
B1 stage shall be as in EN 15804:2012+A2: 2019.
In addition, ceramic tiles are intrinsically inert and therefore do not have environmental impacts during
their use to be addressed in B1 module. Impacts may be declared as “zero” in module B1.
6.3.5.4.2.2 B2 — Maintenance
B2 stage shall be as in EN 15804:2012+A2: 2019.
6.3.5.4.2.3 B3 — Repair
B3 stage shall be as in EN 15804:2012+A2: 2019.
In addition, ceramic tiles are a long-lasting product, and repair is not expected if the product is installed
and handled in the correct manner and satisfy the requirement specified in EN 14411:2016, therefore
impacts may be declared as “zero” in module B3.
6.3.5.4.2.4 B4 — Replacement
B4 stage shall be as in EN 15804:2012+A2: 2019.
In addition, ceramic tiles are a long-lasting product and under normal use conditions do not require
replacement during the use phase, as the Reference Service Life (see 6.3.4) coincides with the Estimated
Service Life of the building. In case the ceramic tile breaks during the use phase it can be replaced, this
occurrence is rare therefore impacts due to replacement are negligible and therefore impacts may be
declared as “zero” in module B4 (see EN 14411:2016).
6.3.5.4.2.5 B5 — Refurbishment
B5 stage shall be as in EN 15804:2012+A2: 2019.
In addition, ceramic tiles require no refurbishment during the use phase as the Reference Service Life
(see 6.4.3) coincides with the Estimated Service Life of the building; therefore impacts may be declared
as “zero” in module B5 (see EN 14411:2016).
prEN 17160:2024 (E)
6.3.5.4.3 B6-B7 Use stage information modules related to the operation of the building
6.3.5.4.3.1 B6 Energy use to operate building integrated technical systems
B6 stage shall be as in EN 15804:2012+A2: 2019.
In addition, when the ceramic tile is integrated in a building, no energy use is expected for its normal
operation therefore impacts may be declared as “zero” in module B6.
6.3.5.4.3.2 B7 Operational water use by building integrated technical systems
B7 stage shall be as in EN 15804:2012+A2: 2019.
In addition, when the ceramic tile is integrated in a building, no water use is expected for its normal
operation therefore impacts may be declared as “zero” in module B7.
6.3.5.5 End-of-life stage
The end of life stage shall be as in EN 15804:2012+A2:2019.
6.3.5.6 Benefits and loads beyond the product system boundary in module D
The benefits and loads beyond the product system boundary in module D shall be as in
EN 15804:2012+A2:2019, in addition:
Recycling of ceramic tiles
After the demolition/deconstruction stage, ceramic tiles can be crushed and then used in a range of
different applications:
— road construction in filled embankment;
— concrete aggregates;
— when ceramic tile is crushed, it forms recycled ceramic aggregates which can be integrated as a partial
substitute of natural aggregate in hot-mix asphalt;
— recycled ceramic aggregates can be used in the construction of landfills;
— recycled ceramic aggregates can be utilized in the construction of sub-based courses on secondary
roads.
Reuse of ceramic tiles
— There are dry-laying systems for ceramic tiles that allow their installation without the use of any
adhesives. These dry-laying systems allow the disassembly of ceramic tiles at the end of their life, and
their reuse even in a different place. Installation technology in the case of dry-laying systems, widely
varies, with the use of plastic or cork substrates, magnetic laying, floating floors involving the use of
plastic substrates, and many more.
— There are certain anchorage systems that permit to install ventilated façades without the use of
adhesive.
Below a generic definition is given of module C and module D. This default scenario can be used to assess
impacts, loads and benefit for ceramic tiles.
Module C:
— Demolition/deconstruction of ceramic tiles;
