Installation of refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump equipment containing flammable refrigerants, complementing existing standards
This document provides technical information for the installation of refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump equipment containing flammable refrigerants, in particular from class A3, complementing existing standards. The term "refrigerating system" used in this document includes air conditioners and heat pumps.
Refrigerants from toxicity class B are excluded from this scope.
This document includes risk mitigation measures not yet addressed in existing standards for specific refrigerant classes, or not fully reflecting the state of the art, and establishes complementary technical specifications related to the installation of equipment.
The following aspects are considered:
- explosive atmosphere workplace and equipment;
NOTE Further information can be found in Directive 99/92/EC (ATEX Workplace Directive) and Directive 2014/34/EU (ATEX Equipment Directive).
- design and structural specifications for the installation site;
- marking and labelling of equipment parts and installation site;
- good practice for installing equipment, including tools and personal protection;
- risk mitigation methods and related refrigerant charge limits;
- risk assessments;
- competence of personnel;
- safety testing of systems and equipment.
Installation von Kälte-, Klima- und Wärmepumpenanlagen, die brennbare Kältemittel enthalten, zur Ergänzung bestehender Normen
Dieses Dokument stellt den bestehenden Normen ergänzende technische Informationen zur Verfügung für die Installation von Kälte-, Klima- und Wärmepumpenanlagen, die brennbare Kältemittel, insbesondere der Klasse A3, enthalten. Der Begriff „Kälteanlage“ im vorliegenden Dokument beinhaltet Klimaanlagen und Wärmepumpen.
Kältemittel der Toxizitätsklasse B sind von diesem Anwendungsbereich ausgenommen.
Dieses Dokument enthält Maßnahmen zur Risikominderung, die noch nicht in bestehenden Normen für bestimmte Kältemittelklassen behandelt werden oder den Stand der Technik nicht vollständig widerspiegeln, und legt ergänzende technische Spezifikationen in Bezug auf die Installation von Equipment fest.
Die folgenden Aspekte werden berücksichtigt:
— Arbeitsumgebungen, in denen eine gefährliche explosionsfähige Atmosphäre entstehen kann und dafür geeignete Betriebsmittel;

— Kennzeichnung und Beschilderung von Anlagenteilen und des Aufstellungsorts;
— anerkannte Praxis für die Installation von Equipment, einschließlich Auswahl von Werkzeugen und Schutz von Personen;
— Methoden zur Risikominderung und entsprechende Grenzwerte für die Kältemittelfüllmenge;
— Risikobeurteilungen;
— Sachkunde des Personals;
— Sicherheitsprüfungen von Anlagen und Equipment.
Installation d'équipements de réfrigération, de climatisation et de pompes à chaleur contenant des fluides frigorigènes inflammables, en complément des normes existantes
Le présent document fournit des informations techniques pour l’installation d’équipements de réfrigération, de climatisation et de pompes à chaleur contenant des fluides frigorigènes inflammables, en particulier de classe A3, en complément des normes existantes. Le terme « système frigorifique » utilisé dans le présent document inclut les climatiseurs et les pompes à chaleur.
Les fluides frigorigènes de classe de toxicité B sont exclus du présent domaine d’application.
Le présent document inclut des mesures d’atténuation du risque non encore abordées dans les normes existantes pour des classes de fluides frigorigènes spécifiques, ou ne reflétant pas pleinement l’état de l’art, et établit des spécifications techniques complémentaires liées à l’installation d’un équipement.
Les aspects suivants sont considérés :
- lieu de travail où peuvent se former des atmosphères explosives et équipements correspondants ;

This Technical Specification (CEN/TS) was approved by CEN on 1 February 2021 for provisional application.
The period of validity of this CEN/TS is limited initially to three years. After two years the members of CEN will be requested to
submit their comments, particularly on the question whether the CEN/TS can be converted into a European Standard.
CEN members are required to announce the existence of this CEN/TS in the same way as for an EN and to make the CEN/TS
available promptly at national level in an appropriate form. It is permissible to keep conflicting national standards in force (in
parallel to the CEN/TS) until the final decision about the possible conversion of the CEN/TS into an EN is reached.
