This document applies of steel service valve assemblies with an internal pressure of maximum 2,5 MPa.
The principles of this document can be applied to thermal insulated bonded steel service valve assemblies with internal pressures higher than 2,5 MPa, provided that special attention is paid to the effects of pressure.
The steel service valve assembly can also include the following additional elements: measuring wires, spacers, and diffusion barriers.

Overview
EN 488-2:2025 is a CEN European standard for factory made thermally insulated bonded steel service valve assemblies used in directly buried district heating and district cooling networks. It covers assemblies intended for filling, draining, venting and operational access of hot and cold water distribution systems. The assemblies combine a steel service valve and pipe, polyurethane (PUR) foam thermal insulation, and a polyethylene (PE) casing and are designed in accordance with EN 13941-1. EN 488-2:2025 applies to assemblies with an internal pressure up to 2.5 MPa, with principles extendable to higher pressures when pressure effects are addressed.
