Safety of children's clothing - Cords and drawstrings on children's clothing - Specifications

This document specifies requirements for cords and drawstrings for children's clothing, including disguise costumes and skiwear, up to the age of 14 years.
Within the scope of this document it is not possible to cover all potential hazards that may create an unsafe garment.
Conversely, identifiable specific hazards in certain styles/design of garment may not present a risk for certain age groups.
NOTE   It is recommended that an individual risk assessment be carried out on any garment in order to ensure that it does not present a hazard to the wearer.
This document does not apply to:
a)   child use and care articles such as, nappies and soother holders;
b)   shoes, boots and similar footwear;
c)   gloves, hats, scarves
d)   neckties designed to be worn with a shirt or blouse;
e)   belts and braces;
f)   religious clothing that may be worn all the time, and celebratory clothing such as that worn at civil or religious ceremonies or regional or national festivals;
g)   specialist sportswear and activity wear generally worn for limited periods and under supervision for example rugby shorts, wet suits, and dancewear except where those garments are commonly worn as day wear or night wear;
h)   theatrical costumes used for theatrical performances.

Sicherheit von Kinderbekleidung - Kordeln und Zugbänder an Kinderbekleidung - Anforderungen

Dieses Dokument legt Anforderungen an Kordeln und Zugbänder für Kinderbekleidung, einschließlich  Karnevals- und Rollenkostümen sowie Skibekleidung für Kinder bis zum Alter von 14 Jahren fest.
Innerhalb des Anwendungsbereiches dieses Dokuments ist es nicht möglich, alle potenziellen Gefahren abzudecken, die eine unsichere Bekleidung verursachen kann.
Umgekehrt dürfen erkennbare spezielle Gefährdungen durch bestimmte Styles/Designs der Bekleidung keine Gefahr für bestimmte Altersgruppen darstellen.
ANMERKUNG   Es wird empfohlen, eine individuelle Risikobeurteilung an jedem Bekleidungsstück durchzuführen, um sicherzustellen, dass dieses keine Gefährdung für den Träger darstellt.
Dieses Dokument gilt nicht für:
1)   Artikel für Säuglinge und Kleinkinder, wie zum Beispiel Windeln und Schnullerhalter;
2)   Schuhe, Stiefel und ähnliche Schuhwaren;
3)   Handschuhe, Hüte und Schals;
4)   Krawatten/Fliegen, die mit einem Hemd oder einer Bluse zu tragen sind;
5)   Gürtel und Hosenträger;
6)   religiöse Bekleidung, die ständig getragen werden kann und Festkleidung, die bei zivilen oder religiösen Feiern oder regionalen oder nationalen Festen getragen wird;
7)   spezielle Sport- und Freizeitbekleidung, die im Allgemeinen nur für begrenzte Zeiträume und unter Aufsicht getragen wird, wie zum Beispiel Rugby-Shorts, Taucheranzüge und Tanzbekleidung, mit Ausnahme der Kleidungsstücke, die üblicherweise als Tages- oder Nachtbekleidung getragen werden;
8)   Theaterkostüme, die für Aufführungen benutzt werden

Le présent document fixe des exigences concernant les cordons, coulissants ou non, de vêtements d'enfants, y compris les costumes de déguisement et les combinaisons de ski, jusqu'à l'âge de 14 ans.
Le domaine d'application du présent document ne peut pas englober la totalité des dangers potentiels qui sont susceptibles de conférer un risque à un vêtement.
Inversement certains dangers potentiels spécifiques identifiables sur certains styles/modèles de vêtements peuvent ne pas présenter de risque pour certains groupes d'âge.
NOTE   Il est recommandé de soumettre chacun des vêtements à une appréciation du risque pour s'assurer qu'il ne constitue pas un danger potentiel pour le porteur.
Ce document ne s'applique pas aux articles suivants :
1)   articles de puériculture tels que les couches et les attaches pour sucettes ;
2)   chaussures, bottes et articles chaussants similaires ;
3)   gants, chapeaux, foulards ;
4)   cravates destinées à être portées avec une chemise ou un chemisier ;
5)   ceintures et bretelles de pantalon ;
6)   vêtements religieux pouvant être portés en permanence et vêtements de fête pouvant être portés à l'occasion de cérémonies civiles ou religieuses ou bien lors de festivals régionaux ou nationaux ;
7)   vêtements conçus pour la pratique d'un sport et vêtements professionnels portés, en général, pendant des périodes limitées et sous surveillance (par exemple : shorts de rugby, combinaisons de plongée et vêtements de danse) excepté lorsque ces vêtements sont des tenues de jour ou de nuit couramment portées ;

EN 14682:2004 (E) 3 Foreword This document (EN 14682:2004) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 248 “Textiles and Textile products”, the secretariat of which is held by BSI. This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by June 2005, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by June 2006. Following the publication and implementation of this document in CEN member countries, it has been agreed by CEN TC 248 that there should be an 18 month transition period from the date of availability to allow manufacturers to develop and produce garments that conform to the standard. This period is also to allow the supply chain, from manufacturer through to the consumer, to be cleared of non-conforming garments.
This document has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the European Free Trade Association.
