Cranes - General design - Part 1: General principles and requirements

This European Standard specifies general principles and requirements to be used together with EN 13001 2 and the EN 13001 3 series of standards, and as such they specify conditions and requirements on design to prevent mechanical hazards of cranes, and a method of verification of those requirements.
NOTE   Specific requirements for particular types of crane are given in the appropriate European Standard for the particular crane type.
The following is a list of significant hazardous situations and hazardous events that could result in risks to persons during normal use and foreseeable misuse. Clause 4 of this European Standard is necessary to reduce or eliminate the risks associated with the following hazards:
a)   instability of the crane or its parts (tilting);
b)   exceeding the limits of strength (yield, ultimate, fatigue);
c)   elastic instability of the crane or its parts (buckling, bulging);
d)   exceeding temperature limits of material or components;
e)   exceeding the deformation limits.
This European Standard is applicable to cranes which are manufactured after the date of approval by CEN of this standard and serves as reference base for the European Standards for particular crane types.

Krane - Konstruktion allgemein - Teil 1: Allgemeine Prinzipien und Anforderungen

Diese Europäische Norm legt die allgemeinen Grundlagen und Anforderungen fest, die zusammen mit EN 13001 2 und der Normenreihe EN 13001 3 anzuwenden sind und spezifiziert die Bedingungen und Anforderungen an die Konstruktion zur Vermeidung von mechanischen Gefährdungen bei Kranen sowie eine Methode der Überprüfung dieser Anforderungen.
ANMERKUNG   Besondere Anforderungen für spezielle Krantypen sind in der zutreffenden Europäischen Norm für den speziellen Krantyp angegeben.
Im Folgenden ist eine Auflistung von signifikanten Gefährdungssituationen und Gefährdungsereignissen gegeben, die Risiken für Personen während des normalen Gebrauchs und vorhersehbarem Missbrauch (des Krans) zur Folge haben könnten. Abschnitt 4 dieser Europäischen Norm wird zur Reduzierung oder Eliminierung der mit den folgenden Gefährdungen verbundenen Risiken benötigt:
a)   Instabilität des Krans oder seiner Teile (Kippen);
b)   Überschreitung der Festigkeitsgrenzwerte (Fließgrenze, Bruch-, Ermüdungsfestigkeit);
c)   elastische Instabilität des Krans oder seiner Teile (Knicken, Ausbeulen);
d)   Überschreitung von Temperaturgrenzwerten des Werkstoffs oder der Komponenten;
e)   Überschreitung der Verformungsgrenzwerte.
Diese Europäische Norm gilt für Krane, die nach dem Datum der Genehmigung dieser Norm durch CEN hergestellt werden und dient als Referenzgrundlage für die Europäischen Normen für spezielle Krantypen.

Appareils de levage à charge suspendue - Conception générale - Partie 1 : Principes généraux et prescriptions

La présente Norme européenne spécifie les principes généraux et les prescriptions à utiliser conjointement avec l’EN 13001-2 et la série des EN 13001-3, et dans ce cadre elles spécifient les conditions et les prescriptions de conception visant à prévenir  les dangers mécaniques liés aux appareils de levage à charge suspendue, et elles spécifient une méthode de vérification de ces prescriptions.
NOTE   Des prescriptions spécifiques relatives aux types particuliers d’appareil de levage à charge suspendue sont données dans la norme européenne appropriée au type particulier de grue.
La liste suivante spécifie les situations et les événements dangereux significatifs, susceptibles d'entraîner des risques pour les personnes lors d'une utilisation normale et d'une mauvaise utilisation prévisible. L'Article 4 de la présente Norme européenne est nécessaire pour réduire ou éliminer les risques associés à ces phénomènes dangereux :
a)   instabilité de  l’appareil de levage à charge suspendue ou de ses éléments (basculement) ;
b)   dépassement des limites de résistance (élasticité, rupture, fatigue) ;
c)   instabilité élastique de l’appareil de levage  ou de ses éléments (flambage, voilement) ;
d)   dépassement des limites de température du matériau ou des composants ;
e)   dépassement des limites de déformation.
La présente Norme européenne s'applique aux appareils de levage à charge suspendue construits après sa date d'approbation par le CEN et sert de base de référence pour les normes européennes pour des types de grues particuliers.

This document is to be used together with the other generic parts of EN 13001 series of standards, see Annex E, as well as pertinent crane type product EN standards, and as such they specify general conditions, requirements and methods to, by design and theoretical verification, prevent mechanical hazards of hydraulic cylinders that are part of the load carrying structures of cranes. Hydraulic piping, hoses and connectors used with the cylinders are not within the scope of this document, as well as cylinders made from other material than carbon steel.

The significant hazardous situations and hazardous events that could result in risks to persons during intended use are identified in Annex F. Clauses 4 to 7 of this document provide requirements and methods to reduce or eliminate these risks:

This European Standard is to be used together with EN 13001-1 and EN 13001-2 and, as such, they specify general conditions, requirements and methods to prevent by design and theoretical verification, mechanical hazards in crane hooks.
This European Standard covers the following parts of hooks and types of hooks:
-   bodies of any type of hooks made of steel forgings;
-   machined shanks of hooks with a thread/nut suspension.
Principles of this European Standard can be applied to machined shanks of hooks in general. However, stress concentration factors relevant to designs not given in this standard would have to be determined and applied.
NOTE 1   Cast hooks and plate hooks, which are those, assembled of one or several parallel parts of rolled steel plates, are not covered in this European Standard.
The following is a list of significant hazardous situations and hazardous events that could result in risks to persons during normal use and foreseeable misuse. Clauses 4 to 8 of this document are necessary to reduce or eliminate the risks associated with the following hazards:
a)   exceeding the limits of strength (yield, ultimate, fatigue);
b)   exceeding temperature limits of material.
The requirements of this European Standard are stated in the main body of the document and are applicable to forged hook designs in general.
The commonly used hook body and shank designs listed in Annexes A, B and F are only examples and should not be referred to as requirements of this European Standard. Annex I gives guidance for the selection of a hook size, where a hook body is in accordance with Annex A or B. The selection of hook form is not limited to those shown in Annexes A and B.
This European Standard is applicable to cranes, which are manufactured after the date of approval of this European Standard by CEN, and serves as a reference base for product standards of particular crane types.
NOTE 2   This part of EN 13001 deals only with the limit state method in accordance with EN 13001-1.

This document applies to light offshore cranes including their supporting pedestals and structures.
NOTE   Supporting pedestal and structures such as columns and boom rests, are covered by this document to the extent where their main purpose is to support the crane.
This document is applicable to light offshore cranes, whose structures are made of steel, and fulfil all of the following characteristics:
-   maximum rated capacity 15 tonnes or maximum static load moment 3 000 kNm;
-   limitation for off-board lifting operation up to Hs = 2,0 m and wind speed 15 m/s (3 s gust);
-   maximum number of working cycles class U1 (C ≤ 3,15 × 104) according to EN 13001-1.
This document provides requirements for all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to light offshore cranes for lifting of goods and lifting of persons, when used as intended and under conditions foreseen by the risk assessment (see Clause 4).
This document is applicable to light offshore cranes, which are manufactured after the date of approval by CEN of this document.
This document is not applicable for:
a)   transportation, assembly, disabling, scrapping, installation or erecting of the crane;
b)   any item attached to the hook, such as loads, non-fixed load lifting attachments, lifting accessories, baskets, carriers and containers;
c)   lifting operations in ambient temperatures below −20 °C;
d)   lifting operations in ambient temperatures above 45 °C;
e)   lifting operations involving more than one crane;
f)   accidental loads as result of collisions, earthquakes, explosions, etc., which are not covered by exceptional loads defined in Table B.7;
g)   emergency personnel rescue operations (except training);
h)   subsea lifting operations;
i)   general purpose offshore cranes (covered by EN 13852-1), floating cranes and motion compensated cranes.

Crane safety - General design - Part 2: Load actions

This document specifies load actions and load combinations for the calculation of load effects as basis for the proof of competence of a crane and its main components. It will be used together with the other generic parts of the EN 13001 series of standards, see Annex E. As such they specify conditions and requirements on design to prevent mechanical hazards of cranes and provide a method of verification of those requirements.
NOTE   Specific requirements for particular types of crane are given in the appropriate European product standards for the particular crane type, see Annex E.
The following is a list of significant hazardous situations and hazardous events that could result in risks to persons during normal use and reasonably foreseeable misuse. Clause 4 of this document provides means to reduce or eliminate the risks of mechanical failures due to the following:
a)   rigid body instability of the crane or its parts (tilting);
b)   exceeding the limits of strength (yield, ultimate, fatigue);
c)   elastic instability of the crane or its parts or components (buckling, bulging).
The hazards covered by this document are identified by Annex G.
This document is not applicable to cranes that are manufactured before the date of its publication as EN.

-   light crane systems, either suspended or free-standing systems, where the rated capacity of any single lifting device is 4 t or less;

The specific hazards due to potentially explosive atmospheres, ionizing radiation, operation in electro-magnetic fields beyond the range of EN 61000 6 2:2016 and operation in pharmacy or food industry are not covered by this document.
This document does not cover hazards related to the lifting of persons.
This document is applicable to cranes, which are manufactured after the date of its publication by CEN as a European Standard.

This document specifies design requirements for non-powered access installed on cranes.
NOTE 1 For other type of access, a requirement for information to be supplied is specified.
Slidable, retractable means of access are excluded from the scope, except movable hoop guards.
This document covers means of access to control stations and all access required for maintenance, certain erection and dismantling operations.
For those cranes which are intended to be erected and dismantled frequently to change their places of work, specific requirements for the access needed during these operations are not covered by this document and should be given in the appropriate European Standards for specific crane types.
Lighting of means of access is not covered by this document and should be given in the appropriate European Standards for specific crane types.

The requirements given in this document do not take into account the safety distances related to:
- guarding against hazard from moving parts;
- relative movement between crane and adjacent structure or the ground/floor;
- hazardous surface temperature;
- electrical equipment.

This document specifies the requirements of anti-collision devices and systems installed on tower cranes (as defined in EN 14439) to avoid the risks of collision between several cranes in service, between a crane in use and fixed obstacles, and over prohibited zones.

It applies to anti-collision devices manufactured after the publication of this document.

This document defines the safety characteristics and requirements of anti-collision devices and systems intended for installation on self-erecting tower cranes and tower cranes erected from parts.
In particular:
-   performance level;
-   information to be provided by the sensors installed on the crane;
-   operation, particularly in the event of failure, override and free jib slewing states of a crane;
-   type of communication between devices;
-   information for the crane operator and outside indicator.
It also specifies the requirements for marking the device or the system and the content of the instructions for use.

Cranes - Bridge and gantry cranes

This document applies to bridge and gantry cranes able to travel by wheels on rails, runways or roadway surfaces, and to gantry cranes without wheels mounted in a stationary position.
NOTE Light crane systems (assembly of lifting devices, crane bridges, trolleys and tracks; wall-mounted, pillar and workshop jib cranes) are covered by EN 16851.
This document specifies requirements for all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to bridge and gantry cranes when used as intended and under conditions foreseen by the manufacturer (see Clause 4).
This document does not include requirements for the lifting of persons.

This document specifies minimum requirements for design, calculation, examinations and tests of hydraulic powered loader cranes and their mountings on vehicles or static foundations.
This document applies to loader cranes designed to be installed on:
-   road vehicles, including trailers, with load carrying capability;
-   tractors (road or agricultural), where only a towed trailer has capability to carry goods;
-   demountable bodies to be carried by any of the above;
-   other types of carriers (e.g. separate loaders, crawlers, rail vehicles, non-seagoing vessels);
-   static foundations.
This document also applies to loader cranes equipped with special tools or interchangeable equipment (e.g. grapple, clamshell bucket, pallet clamp, etc.), as specified in the operator’s manual.
This document does not apply to loader cranes used on board sea going vessels or to articulated boom system cranes which are designed as total integral parts of special equipment such as forwarders.
The hazards covered by this document are identified in Clause 4.
This document does not cover hazards related to the lifting of persons.
NOTE   The use of cranes for lifting of persons can be subject to specific national regulations.
This document is not applicable to loader cranes manufactured before the publication of this document. For loader cranes designed before the publication of this document, the provisions concerning stress calculations in the version of EN 12999 that was valid at the time of their design, are still applicable.
