Dieser Teil von ISO 294 legt  ein Verfahren fest für die Bestimmung der Verarbeitungsschwindung und der Nachschwindung spritzgegossener Probekörper aus Thermoplasten, parallel und senkrecht zur Schmelze-Fließrichtung.
Hinsichtlich der Bestimmung der Schwindung von Duroplasten siehe ISO 2577 [2].
Die Verarbeitungsschwindung, wie sie in diesem Teil von ISO 294 definiert ist, schließt Auswirkungen von Feuchteaufnahme aus. Das ist in der Nachschwindung und somit in der Gesamtschwindung enthalten. Hinsichtlich der Fälle, in denen die Nachschwindung ausschließlich durch Feuchteaufnahme verursacht wird, siehe ISO 175 [1].
Die Verarbeitungsschwindung, wie sie in diesem Teil von ISO 294 definiert ist, stellt die so genannte freie Schwindung mit uneingeschränkter Verformung der abkühlenden Formteile im Formwerkzeug während der Nachdruckzeit dar. Sie kann demzufolge als der Höchstwert einer beschränkten Schwindung angesehen werden.

Foreword
The text of ISO 294-4:2001 has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 61 "Plastics" of
the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and has been taken over as EN ISO
294-4:2003 by Technical Committee CEN/TC 249 "Plastics", the secretariat of which is held by
IBN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of
an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by August 2003, and conflicting national
standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by August 2003.
This document supersedes EN ISO 294-4:1998.
According to the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations, the national standards organizations of
the following countries are bound to implement this European Standard: Austria, Belgium, Czech
