Wood-based panels - Determination of duration of load and creep factors

This European Prestandard specifies a method of determining in a constant climate both a duration of load factor and a creep factor for wood-based panels stressed in flatwise bending with and without a shear component. Details of an alternative but provisional method employing medium sized test pieces are given in Annex B; this method can also be used for test pieces loaded under varying climates.

Diese Europäische Vornorm legt ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung der Zeitstandfestigkeit und der Kriechzahl von Holzwerkstoffen im Flachbiegeversuch mit und ohne Schubkomponente im Konstantklima fest. Einzelheiten zu einem alternativen aber vorläufigen Verfahren unter Verwendung von mittelgroßen Prüfkörpern sind im Anhang B aufgeführt, dieses Verfahren kann auch für Prüfkörper verwendet werden, die unter wechselnden Klimabedingungen belastet sind.

La présente prénorme européenne prescrit une méthode de détermination dans un climat constant du facteur de durée de charge et du facteur de fluage pour les panneaux à base de bois en flexion à plat avec et sans composante de cisaillement. Des détails sur une autre méthode provisoire employant des éprouvettes en semi-grandeur est donnée dans l'annexe B; cette méthode peut aussi être utilisée pour des éprouvettes sous contrainte dans des climats variables.

This European Standard specifies methods for internal initial type testing (ITT) and internal factory production control (FPC) as well as external control of wood-based panels for their compliance with EN 13986 and other relevant product specifications. However, it may also apply, at the option of the manufacturer, to wood-based panels applied for non-construction purposes.
This European Standard is not applicable for the assessment of compliance with specifications of panels comprised in consignments. In such cases, EN 326-3 applies.
For internal factory production control, if required, methods for the assessment of conformity of batches and of production over longer periods are given.
For external control, if required, methods for the initial inspection of a factory and initial type testing of a product, and for the surveillance of the factory production control, are given.
In the factory production control small test pieces are used. The statistics of evaluation is based on normal distribution.

This European Standard specifies the procedure for determining the performance characteristics through type testing, of load-bearing wood-based panels fitted on:
a)   structural joists for decking:
1)   in flooring applications in load categories A, B, C and D;
2)   in roof applications in load categories H and I;
for which type testing involves:
i)   punching shear under concentrated loading;
ii)   vertical soft body impact;
b)   studs for walling application for which type testing involves:
1)   pendular soft body impact.
Annex A (normative) lists modifications to EN 1195, particularly the contact area of the loading head that may be used for concentrated loading.
Annex B (informative) provides proposals for national performance requirements.
Annex C (informative) provides examples for a decking application in a floor and a roof.

NOTE   The duration of load factor is necessary to modify the characteristic strength values obtained in short-term structural tests in order to derive long-term values. The creep factor obtained in the test is used to predict a long-term deflection from the initial elastic deflection.
