LAMINATED CORE PACKAGES FOR
TRANSFORMERS AND INDUCTORS FOR USE IN
TELECOMMUNICATION AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT -
Part 2: Electrical characteristics for
cores using YEE 2 laminations
FOREWORD
1) The IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) is a worldwide organization for standardization
comprising all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of the IEC is to
promote international cooperation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and
electronic fields. To this end and in addition to other activities, the IEC publishes International Standards.
Their preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested in
the subject dealt with may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and
non-governmental organizations liaising with the IEC also participate in this preparation. The IEC
collaborates closely with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in accordance with
conditions determined by agreement between the two organizations.
2) The formal decisions or agreements of the IEC on technical matters, prepared by technical committees on
which all the National Committees having a special interest therein are represented, express, as nearly as
possible, an international consensus of opinion on the subjects dealt with.
3) They have the form of recommendations for international use published in the form of standards, technical
reports or guides and they are accepted by the National Committees in that sense.
4) In order to promote international unification, IEC National Committees undertake to apply IEC International
Standards transparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional standards. Any
divergence between the IEC Standard and the corresponding national or regional standard shall be clearly
indicated in the latter.
5) The IEC provides no marking procedure to indicate its approval and cannot be rendered responsible for any
equipment declared to be in conformity with one of its standards.
International Standard IEC 1021-2 has been prepared by IEC technical committee 51:
Magnetic components and ferrite materials.
The text of this standard is based on the following documents:
DIS Report on voting
51/354/DIS 51 /388/RVD
Full information on the voting for the approval of this standard can be found in the report
on voting indicated in the above table.
IEC 1021 consists of the following parts, under the general title: Laminated core packages
for transformers and inductors for use in telecommunication and electronic equipment:
- Part 1: 1990, Dimensions;
- Part 2: 1994, Electrical characteristics for cores using YEE 2 laminations.

LAMINATED CORE PACKAGES FOR
TRANSFORMERS AND INDUCTORS FOR USE IN
TELECOMMUNICATION AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT -
Part 2: Electrical characteristics for
cores using YEE 2 laminations
1 Scope
This part of IEC 1021 specifies the electrical characteristics of laminated core packages
using
YEE 2 laminations according to IEC 740 and, in their larger variant, according
to IEC 1021-1, for cores made from specified grades of oriented silicon-steel or nickel-iron
alloys. It also gives the marking and packaging requirements.
The main applications of these cores exclude the significant transmission of power with
the consequence that the principal electrical characteristic may be expressed in terms of
inductance factor AL.
Although laminated core packages are produced with or without an air gap in the centre
leg of the magnetic circuit, this part deals only with gaped cores, where control of the
length of a designed air gap enables specified A L values to be achieved.
NOTE — The electrical characteristics of laminated core packages without an air gap is a matter for
agreement between customer and manufacturer.

3 Definitions
For definitions of the general terms used, reference should be made to IEC 50(221).
The definition of "laminated core package" is given in IEC 1021-1.
For the purpose of this part of IEC 1021, the following definition applies:
A:
inductance factor The inductance L of a specified coil placed on a given core in a
L
specified position, divided by the square of the number of turns N.
L
A -

N2
4 Electrical characteristics
The inductance factors of laminated core packages and their tolerances shall be as
specified in tables 1, 2 and 3 below for the material grades indicated, when made from the
specified sheet thickness, clamped with the specified contact forces, and measured under
the specified measuring conditions, using the test coils and test arrangement prescribed in
clause 6.
NOTES
L
1 In order to measure the A values correctly, it is necessary for the mating surfaces to be clean and
corrosion-free, and assembled in perfect alignment.
2 The specified A L values apply in the absence of premagnetization (d.c. bias). The deviations from t
